OK next year want to race scale have not a clue of what is a good racing boat.

So help me I need all I can get.

Not so much interested in the look. Just want to build a fast good handling boat. that will survive race condition.

Don't want a concourse boat will just be racing it.

David

David, due to simplicity, lack of rear wings and turbine tube, the 8255 has to be one of my most popular kits for the racer. That or the 7474 (Oly Beer- 108 newton plan) as it has minimal "destroyable" parts. Hope this guides you a little. Thanks, Mike Luszcz, ML Boatworks

Any modern hull or even a round nose boat can be a missile pick your poison

Thanks guys for all the info.

Really don't have the time for a wood build wish I did I love building wood boats.

So I guess a glass one would be the best bet right now.

If I could get some contact info that would be great.

You can contact your scale director to see what is racing so you can build one that isnot beng raced in your district. The picklefork boats with no wing are popular. Get pictures first and pick a kit that will do that boat.

Check the boats on my web pages, all my boats are race winners, and pretty easy to setup. All of them have the race setup info included, you dont have figure much out to make them race ready.

David, if you want a boat that goes together fast-n-easy, and runs really good, you might want to take a look a Phil,s 82U55 hull....i really like mine and with a little tweaking, it runs well....some great people helped me out with mine and it really made a huge difference with how it runs!

David,

Give Steve Gualtieri a call. Here's a pic of his SG 110H hull and a pic for a simple paint job. Ron Ratoff has one of these hulls as U-74 Miss Olympia and just raced it at the Fall Nats. It did very well for a new boat, and will handle Florida water better than many other hulls that are available. CHEERS !!! Bob

I have the 8255 COORS LIGHT Phill Thomas for sale, its a good heat race boat ITS RTR less TX an RX

Ok one more newbie question. The hull needs a registration number to race? Dose this number transfer with the sale or do I have to register it in my dis under my name?

FInd your scale director and ask. Usally the reason for registration is so everyone will not build the same boat, and to raise some money for a season points trophy.

David,

Steve Gualtieri is also the District 3 Scale Director. You will register the hull in your name for 2012 and each subsequent year. Registration form is on the D3 Web page under "Scale". CHEERS !!! Bob

I will see him at the race next weekend and get all the info.

Just want to get some different opinions on what is what be for I make up my mind.

I like to gather as much info as I can before I make a decision.

Hey David,

That's the way to go - take a look at all the different hulls that will be there to give you a good sampling of what's available.

  • RC Boat Company will be represented by at least Steve & Ron Ratoff: Jack, Randy, and Perry are all scratch built Wood Over Foam (WOF) hulls.
  • Dan McCormick has a Velasco hull - these hulls come without any wood in them normally. I know that some have requested engine mounting rails be installed through Henry. Many run a pan mounted enging mount the bolts through the hull bottom. Pics attached of Don Maher's Notre Dame installation FYI.
  • Bill Gibson runs one of Phil Thomas' 8255 hulls - 1982 U-8 Executone.

I'm sure the Scale boaters will be more than glad to give you a hand and answer questions you have. CHEERS !!! Bob
