I'm new the the nitro thing, I've built one gasser and I'm building a second now. My question is where would I start in the nitro world? I have a couple of buddy's one has a miss vegas and the other has a circus circus, and I would like to be able to run with them because every time we race they get flipped when they get in my roost. Will a mono keep up with the hydros .21 or so? If so what would you recomend and what kind $$ are we talking about to go nitro. I've tried to get them to scale up but it's to $$$ so I'll scale down to have some fun. Another question is what kind of wieght should I shout for if I build a mono around 30"?

B)

Mono wouldnt be running in same class as the vegas or the scale boat but a 20 monmo is a great starter boat and a fun boat to run my choice would be a seaducer this is a 33" boat set it up exactly way jerry tells you do not change a thing you will have a great running boat. Robert

Most properly setup A-Mono (.21) will be much faster than the vegas in my opinion- Im assuming the Vegas and Circus are the 1/12 scale Pro-Boat type boats. A Speedmaster or Seaducer would be the hull of choice for a Mono they would keep you in the 30+ inch range and run very well.

Keep your eyes open here or put a WTB post in the "for sale" section to keep initial costs down if your only sport running. If you plan to race (NAMBA-IMPBA) I would only purchase a used boat I have seen run or from someone with proven good running boats on this forum. Other wise build it out all new yourself-you know what your getting then.

Price, well thats a wide open ball park, what the use will be(sport-racing) and how competative you want to be will decide that. If the boats your buddies are running are the Pro-boat type boats -BUY ONE OF THEM- your cant beat the bang for the buck-a very affordable and decent product, a Great 1st nitro boat - and you will all have like boats, better compatition and more fun that way IMHO.

Once again, just my 2 cents worth. Welcome to the board and -Good Luck......

Mono's easiest to setup and easiest to drive and still good speeds.

Cats ...not that popular faster than some mono's depending on the cat.

Hydro's faster than mono's and cats

Riggers fastest but not for beginners.

if your running for fun with your buds you can get any hull style you like but the mono's are easy to setup.

a properly running 20 will run with the boats you mentioned pretty well.

Drew is correct i have bough a few good used boats of here. There is a ton of nice guys on here and only a small few not so good...

Man Thats a tuffy.... There are several questions that need to be answered here first guys:

1. How much are you willing to spend on your 1st nitro boat?

2. How fast do you want to go?

3. Do you ever plan on racing sanctioned races?

4. What is your technical ability?

5. What do guys around you run?

These are all questions I DIDN'T ask when I got into boating. I have to disagree about riggers not being for beginners. My first boat was a RoadRunner rigger, relatively easy to set up and reallllllly fast. If you run a mono with these guys they are still gonna have issues with you wake/roost especially if they don't stay out of it. Of you plan on racing you nitro boat at sanctioned races get with someone here on the board and find out as much as you can about the local club scene. What do they run? No matter what you get I am sure you will be able to find help on this board. Remeber I didn't ask the questions before I jumped but, I still had to ask them and find answers somewhere.

Well that was fast for the replies. So here it goes, 1 I don't plan on racing but you never no (haven't found any clubs up here or least within a 2-3 hour drive) 2 My real passion is going large but I do want something to run with my buddy's. 3 The faster better, after all I do want to win :D 4 looking to spend around $300 minus radio(have one just looking for some play time) 5 I will prob. build my own hull, here is a pic of my gasser

For the $$$ range your in , I say buy a RTR Vegas - contact James from TLR-(Twisted Liquid Racing) and spank the hell out of your buddies !!!! Have fun !!

I would say that would be the route to go. Unless your a savvy builder, and by your pic you seem to be, you can purchase a 12 rigger kit from Tom @ Firefighter boats and build a 12 boat, and then spank the hell out of your friends with less motor. I own 2 12 boats now and would like to see an rtr boat run with em. I poseted a pic of my fire fighter today in the outrigger forum about different boats. Granted you may have a little more tied up in it than an rtr boat, unless you find one used, but the handling characteristics you get are well worth it. Riggers handle like they are on rails.

I'm with DREW. Get a Vegas or Proboat. Go faster than your buddies by learning proper set up.

That will be the best way to spend $300.

PS. I like the PROBOAT. Add an X535 and it will out run the Vegas. The engine has more potential too.

Yup get a RTR. 20 Hydro and 20 Mono are VERY tough classes, (at least around here). Getting your driving skills honed and not having to worry about performance issues are key plus if your RTR gets run over is won't take much to get it going again. Next choice would be Sport 20. :)

Your best bet is the vegas it comes with a .18 which the pro comes with a .15 and vegas is a better handling boat real easy to modify lot of them here in fla running pretty fast fun to watch. Robert oh Andy be up in Brandon see you couple weeks Robert
