Im setting up a 9xl on 12 cells in my matrix out rigger the motor came with no set up instructions at all . What is the min size and the max size props i should be using? What would be the max motor and controller tempature i should be checking for? Could i run ths motor for 6 minutes as i do with my cordite SS-1 or do i have to set it up for a 1 1/2 minute duration as i used to do with my 5t Astro 25? Any information would be great as i have not found any information on setting up brushless motors.

I am no electric motor expert BUT I recentlly bought a H&M Evo 2 rigger and the same motor and cell count that you are going to be running. I was told the best overall prop will be the Octura X642 or the X640. The 640 should give aroung 4.5 min of run time and a little less for the 642.

Go Here and download the FE Calc program, input your motor, cells and ESC and check out what props will run good and not over amp your ESC. The program is pretty close to real life.

Firstly i wouldnt want to run for 6minutes as with the amp draw from a brushless it will damage cells.

Best to test in 30 seconds - 1minute intervals checking heat. Run time could be put out to 4 mins with mild setup but for speed 2mins max.

Start with perhaps the 640

but for a rigger - lifting props are usually good.

1650 - 1750

on 18cells run a 440. (depends on speedcontrol)

Prop selection will vary depending on the ESC and amp draw. Dont want to push the controller harder than what it is capable of.

If you want duration, don't use x6xx props, use an M440, x442, etc. Speed will be down but amp draw will be too, so cell heat will be reduced. But with today's cells you should limit run time to 4 minutes max anyway or the heat buildup can cook the cells. That motor is a great choice for sport running and even for club racing, but if you want 6+ minutes it may be too much. It really depends on how fast you want to go and how small you can go with propsize.

If you want a lifting prop consider the 1640, 1740, 1.8 and 1938. I could never get the latter two to run well, but I didn't try too hard either.

try the 1650

I run that in a sport hydro with an 8Xl (120amp ESC though) 10Xl on the hacker 70.

Boat runs loose and very fast.

the 9XL in a rigger should be lighter than a sport hydro and faster. I get great run time with 3700's and the 10XL setup. 4200's will be much better and speed will increase also. With a 9XL and 1650 prop you should be able to run 1mile oval with out heating up anything at all. Again check heat and make sure that the boat runs free.

If you want to run for ages, go smaller prop as suggested by jayt. Loose some speed but i wouldnt run for longer than 4mins
