Hello, I've got one of Randy Naylor's Zepher hydros (the older one). Im putting a UL-1 motor and a SV27 esc in it (the blue one). Will this work or do i need a better esc???
Yes, but if the SV27 ESC is 45 amps you will need to run smaller props than you would with the UL-1 60 amp controller. Most people running riggers with the UL-1 motor /ESC combo are running 45-50mm props. You should consider buying a higher amp controller like the UL-1 ESC or the Turnigy 120 amp if you want to run the same size props. Here is a link to the Turnigy 120 LINKHello, I've got one of Randy Naylor's Zepher hydros (the older one). Im putting a UL-1 motor and a SV27 esc in it (the blue one). i was gonna run a x440 3blade. will this be too big?Yes, but if the SV27 ESC is 45 amps you will need to run smaller props than you would with the UL-1 60 amp controller. @ MarkTanski im not running lipos in it as of right now due to my charger shorting out and im waiting for them to send it back. im running 12 cells they're maxamps 4700s.Be careful if it's the older SV esc, it does not have low voltage cut off and will allow your lipo batteries to be run down to the point of damage.
You need a device called a lipo-shield. it's pre programmed to cut the voltage when it gets down to 3.2 v/cell.
Kinetec.com or offshore electric can set you up.
I use one with my stock sv club racer.
I took the Zephyr out and wow it ran swell. The esc read 99 degrees. I've got to work on the prop tho. It was hopping a lil. Can't wait to get the lipos in it XD!We've been running P spec tunnels and riggers with the UL-1 motors for several seasons now. Both the SV-27 and the UL-1 controllers have been replaced by better units. The UL-1 controller is OK but has a high internal resistance. The Turnigy 120 is my choice, but others run the Castle controllers. The motor is the fuse, but when it fails the speed controller usually fails as well. On the outboards we run the Grim Racer 42x55 props. On the riggers I run an ABC S-15. Batteries with 4000 to 5000 mah capacity that have at least a 40C rating seem good as well. The riggers now run in the 60+ mph area.
