I received this boat from an old racing friend of my dads this summer. He claimed my dad gave it to him in the 1970s, and did nothing with it except collect dust. I would like to put some gear in it and use it as a play boat, but I would like to get some more info on it. Someone said it is a catch 22? If anyone knows of any old guides or rc boat magazine articles please let me know. I would like to get some more info on it. Thanks.

Here are some pictures of it:

Looks like an original Northwind kit from back-in-the-day (as it has the blue-colored gel-coat). Would be nice to confirm whether your kit is a Northwind 20 or Northwind 40? (Northwind 20 is approx. 26in OAL, and Northwind 40 is approx. 32n OAL)

Here are a few links to other informative Northwind post's:

Also, John Borden has been re-producing Northwind kits from the original molds, here is his info:

David has the 27" so it's the Northwind 20, as shown on the first picture he linked

I have to agree with the Northwind verdict!! Definetely a shallow mono that is pre-3d versions.. Sure would make a fun .20 play boat for a kid to learn with if they could keep it on the water I would advance them to higher technology!!!

I remember that David Preusse won more than 1 US#1's with a Northwind when he was a "Pup".

I gave my Northwind hull to Darren Jordan. I believe he was using it for inspiration for a SAW mono. As an engine guy, I kept the engine, a PDP Supertiger.
