i have a 19 turn motor and usually i run 5 laps in a race...always on the second lap my boat stops because one of the motor wires (plus) keeps unsoldering because of high temperatures on the motor head...my wires are slodered directly to the head. I have a cooling coil for the body of the motor but i guess thats not enough. Whats the best way to cool a head without fusing anything up (i.e. if i attach a metal tube to both of the places (i dotn noe wut they are callled) where the wires are soldered and if water passes thorugh the tube wont it short someting oput?) please help me and also is it possible to cool botht he body and the head if my intake hole isnt that big. plz help...thanks

your leads are coming off because your drawing to many amps.. Its not a matter of not having enough cooling.. If you can only get one lap and the lead melts off you got something seriously wrong with your setup.

You need to change your prop or cell count.. go smaller on the prop.

whats the boat, motor, prop and how many cells are you using?

everything u told me i already noe...though some one told me to go fo the cooling...i do have a pretty harsh setup...19 turn, 22 inch hull, y534 octura prop, 8 cells...the problem is that on a smaller prop and 8 cells its super slow, on any prop and 6 cells its just humiliating...this is the boat on the y534 and 8 cells

the movie is big in size so please be patient and if it doesnt load get the plug in

also i just ran my boat on an x431 prop and 8 cells ...it took me 10-15 seconds to geo out on plane cause its my first scratch built boat and it weighs about 3 pounds..then i put on the bigger prop and 6 cells and it barely went..so until i can switch to maybe the big prop and 7 cells i need the cooling cause i got a rac eon sunday

Vova,

If you want bring your boat over to my pit on Sunday...I will have a look at it. Kelly is right. If the motor leads are melting off you are drawing to many amps for the set-up.

Brush cooling is a good idea, however, you should not need it to get past one or two laps...I will bring my comm lathe on Sunday. If you have run it as hard as I think you have, the comm is probably out of true causing brush bounce...arcing and heat build-up.

Come on over...I don't bite :D

wow a 22 inch boat that weights almost 3 pounds.. I hope you mean with everything in it.

What they are trying to tell you is that adding watercooling to your brush hoods is not going to cure the problem. They are right, too!

What your leads did was act like a fuse to protect the rest of your equipment. Adding watercooling (without correcting your set-up) is like putting in a larger fuse rather than finding (and fixing) why the proper size fuse blew.

Steve is da man when it comes to 05 can motors. You would have to be crazy not to take advantage of the opportunity to get help with your boat.

Good luck.

What guage of wire are you using on the motor? It looks kind of small.

Derek is right as well...the motor wire guage looks like 14 guage. I would recommend 12 guage wire for stock motors as well (in fact I use Deans Wet Noodle for every set-up I have). They have a limited power to begin with, loading up the motor will draw a lot of amps even for a stocker (and I consider a Chameleon a stocker)...going with the 12 guage reduces the resistance along the current path ...also shorten the wires as much as possible. This may involve changing your cell/esc/motor configuration to minimize the wire as much as possible. It sounds simple, and in reality it is...you just have to make the effort to do it...its worth it!

BTW the water cooling looks great...nice work.

See you Sunday.

Hi Vova

I know a 19T is not a true stock 27T single ROAR motor...it was just a comparative comment in the context of low turn wind hand wound modifieds and the two "spec" motors.

:)

I look forward to seeing you at the pond Sunday.

Steve
