Hey guys, I have a question I am going to be putting a new engine in my .45 standard roadrunner this winter. I do not know if I want a HR or a RS engine? what is the difference? I will be sending the gold head cmb to my sport 40 in place of the OPS engine. So a few changes for next year and I need your imput.

Thanks,

Roy

Ive seen a lot of rs motors in hydros, not to say a hr cant stand up. Both are different animals For my money id go rs stupid fast outta the box. Hr needs some work and will turn crazy rpm. Longevity wise the rs should live longer. Look under the cowls of the fast guys........

I see no reason the HR needs a lot of work. Mine ran just fine this year in a Jaguar III. It was second in heat racing, first two lap oval at the Internats this year. This was against more than one hard running picco. Then again it could just be the JaguarIII the excellent driver or just a damn good motor that had the head clearance set at .010. It won more than one heat race. It's all in the set up of the boat.

All I can say is I have done things to my RS that should no be done with a eng and it is still in one piece.

Have lodged 32000 RPM and it did not come a part. If I can't break it no one can.

the rs and the hr have the same piston, the same liner ,the same head button, the same timing numbers, pretty much the same ports in the case, the only differance is the water jacket and the induction system/carb. the older purple head is the same as the hr, except it has a normal induction system(wich i think is coming back). i like the rs the best.it easily runs 82 in my rigger. my seaducer with a purple head runs 57.personally, i don't like the hr induction system. some people complain the can't tear down an rs. all you need is an ice pick, some new pin clips, and a couple pieces of brass tubing to reinstall the clips. they aren't hard to work on. o,and plug the water hole to the lower chamber, to heat the motor up.

Just so happens that the FASTEST 2-Lap time EVER recorded in NAMBA was done just a month or so ago with a CMB .45 Hr and It was done with the same boat that was heat raced in Hobart the weekend before. ;)

I'm just saying.. :)

That is true although the motor in that boat had a CAM style drum not the newer MAC style HR induction system. It was a screamer!

RS Roy....

Lets just say for the sake of arguement; If both engines are identical internally lets say, why would you not want the one that is more compact with a shorter crankshaft? I love how much more room is in the engine compartment with the RS. Just a thought.....

I think you meant the HR was smaller Larry.

Hey Nub! No, I meant the RS. I like the disk rotor backplate and the rear housing with the flat flywheel. Its just so sweet and compact. jmho.... Wish I was down there in florida with you!!!!! Starting to get cold up here!
