I read one set of rules that said a 12th scale hydro had a minimum of 24 inches and P-power . P hull length is 34 inch maximum. Does this mean that a p class sport hydro or 12thscale port hydro  has a 10 inch swing on what length the hull can be?

Hugh... WHERE are you reading this? Sounds like you have an OLD rule-set, or a club-specific rule-set...

You need to focus on the actual NAMBA rules... You can find them at http://www.namba.com/content/default.asp under the "Resources" tab...

Many clubs or Districts have their own rule sub-sets... So perhaps that's what you were reading???

There isn't any such thing as "1/12th Scale Hydro" in the official NAMBA rules, so I suspect that's the case....

Oh ok. Thanks Darin. The official rulebook I am looking at now was revised may 15 2011 under section 28 2a. it only gives maximum hull lengths I was wondering about the minimums in each class?

Hugh... there aren't any minimums for any of the NAMBA FE classes... (aside from the true Scale classes, of course)... only max lengths...

 Wow I wont even ask how that makes sense  Thanks Darin. For the sport hydro classes is there specific brands? I noticed It says any size or number of motors; but nothing specific to brand except p limited and 10th.scale hydroplane

I'm not going to go back and rehash the ordeal over length limits vs. minimums, but to say that the max limits help to keep the power systems that can be used in check (overpowering the hull will not usually result in success vs. matching the power system to the hull size) and helps to reduce the costs REQUIRED to be competitive... AND that there are many (most?) that believe that IF you can run a 22" hull in P-Sport and keep it on the water during a heat race for 1-mile... perhaps you deserve to win. In other words... not many are worried about heat racing a 34" vs 22" boats together... the larger boats will usually prevail. SAW and 2-Laps are another story.

For the general "Sport Hydro" rules, all that matters is that you follow the rules for the class. There is no list of "allowed" hulls, other than a few listed as examples with rear-shoes that are allowed.

It's the same as Nitro, with some additional dimensional specifications (65% Transom width rule, etc.)...

Should be pretty easy to build something that would fit...

Hope this helps.

Ok; when you put it in that perspective it makes more sense. Does it sound ridiculous to run a 30 inch hull in Q sport hydro? Thats is what I was thinking of doing, but I didnt really know if that was a reasonable idea. What is the typical weight of a competitive Q sport hydro these days?
