Well, For my 3rd build of the winter, I wanted to do my own boat, not copy JD's AGAIN! haha. So, I designed a new WOF and now that I have it together, figured I would share some info and pics. I have also designed a cowl plug that I plan to do a mold for when the temperatures warm up a bit. For now, I am going to use the Dumas cowling shown.

The boats overall size is:

29 3/4" length

11 3/8" width

7" at the rear of the tunnel

6.5" at the front of the tunnel

Starting the center former:

Got ahead of my self, not as many pics as I would like, but the sponson buildup:

Boat as it sits today, the sponsons are not glued on yet, they are just held in by the carbon rods, I plan to install them in the next few days:

And the cowl plug buildup. Lots of framing, foam, fiberglass, filler, sanding and paint!

You are now officially a "Master WOFer." Great work and photos.
JD
"Master WOFer."???? There is no way I am gonna accept that label yet..Maybe in 10+ years. I just got my first RC boat 8 months ago! lol.

As far as plans for this boat, maybe down the road. I want to get this one done, get the cowling mold made, and do a lot of testing. I want to make sure some of my thoughts work correctly on this design..mainly having a varying width tunnel and varying angle ride pad. I will definitely keep this updated tho. My problem, is I have no test or racing experience like most all of the people on this site, and in the country. I really wish there were races locally. Maybe I will a couple hulls and let some of the guys that race a lot try them out?

Anyways, thanks for the positive comments..more to come! Mike

Mike,
Your good to go bro... I just did not want to see too much toe in on the boat and all that work down the drain.

ROCK IT!

Oh, so others do this technique too? I was unsure how it would do. My main goal was reducing air velocity under the tunnel, therefore, reducing lift. I know lift is good, but controling it for higher speeds would be better! Is that the reason others do it?

Stumble blocks are better at this..

Also.. you have built lift into the boat with the toein. But.. you will like the way the boat drives out of the corner.. and some of the dartyness should go away.. that is if you had dartyness before.. or is this version 1?

This is version 1! I have not built a 3.5cc tunnel other than this one. I just got your VS1, but have not rigged it yet. I am very anxious to see what a test proven design runs like, so I have more to go by. I have only worked on the big 1/4 scale tunnels thus far, so this should definately be different! Thanks for your help btw. Mike

New Pics of the finished minus paint boat. Leaving like this for now so I can do some testing.

You do some nice work there Michael, I've always wanted to say that. Now I have some time while I'm home

(on a work day), doing taxes, renewing endless plumbing licenses and a bunch of other related misery of the same.

I see that O/B pipe on your gold engine, looks like a Irwin,, is that what it is? Or is it Jimmys pipe?

JW

JW,

Thank you for the compliment. I feel like every hull I build is a little straighter, and a little better. Maybe one day I can build them as good as JD! You do plumbing? I actually work in Civil Engineering as a Cadd designer. The pipe on this boat is a true Irwin. I received one of Jimmys pipes today actually..and it looks about the same. What are the differences. I have not been in this hobby long enough to know much about the Irwin pipes. I thought the Jimmy guy was the Irwin builder??? Let me know! Mike

I think the rear cone has a steeper taper on the Irwin and Jimmys is a little more gradual but the rest is the same.

I believe your right about Jimmy being the fabber all along, although I never really knew for sure cause I don't always pay

attention from 1300 miles away.

I do remember Jim Irwin talking about an arguement between him and someone un-named concerning the taper in

the baffle cone. One wanted it speeper than the other,, maybe Jimmy was the one that won the arguement in the end,,

don't know for sure whether was Him er not.

Wheres "moparbarn" when you need him anyway? He knows everything  :p
