Miss vegas starter question.

I have a miss vegas with the .18-o.s. cvr-mx(pull start) that the one way bearing in the starter has stopped working.

I have been starting it with the starter and belt system and it works fine.

I was just wondering if i remove the starter and one way bearing but not the backplate will this affect how the engine runs.I see no seal or anything around the starter case that would prevent air/water from entering the crankcase and the starter currently serves no purpose so i wanted to remove it..

i pulled the starter off my 18 engine also.i didnt have any leaks in mine.there should be a gasket there from factory look in your instructions at the parts explosed view to make sure.if you dont feel it is enough you can always put the pull start case on empty and close up the pull cord hole.hope this helps.
