OK. After seeing Speed Jr's rigger I have to ask some questions of the group. Motor wise would a 22mm brushless in the 4600 rpm/v work or not enough torque and what would be the best construction materials ( foam, balsa,etc...)

Thanks,

Richard

You would want to go with a larger motor. The 22mm motor don't have the torque to turn the props we have access to, even when cut down. A small lehner, nue or mega would be where I'd go for motors. I have a 15" shovel nose that runs a 16/15/2 mega on 6 GP2000's and has been radared in the mid 30's. My new micro rigger will have an 1105/2y Neu and the same 6 cell battery. I run castle creations mamba 25 esc's in both. You probably should stay around 4500kV for 6 cells (or 2S lipo).

As for materials. I still like balsa and ply, tub sides are 1/64" ply laminated to 3/16" light balsa. Small carbon tubes for booms and ply over foam sponsons. Basicly a scaled down version of my heat race boats.

Well what Im going to try a 3200 KV motor on 3cell 11.1V lipo in my rigger. Ive been told by the helicopter guy at my local shop that for that size motor, its pushin it without the loss of torque. Again, this is the first electric boat ive done and first experience with lipos. I still cant believe how light these batteries are. I did what Brain suggested and try to get the motor/battery combination to around 30000-35000rpm. I guess you could go higher in KV with a 2cell lipo, but dont you still not have the torque? Im not too sure. As you can see my rigger is built from Depron and 1/64" ply. I am now a depron junkie! Its so awsome to use. Its so easy to cut, shape and glue. Ill never use balsa again. My Father was so impressed with it I think hes actually going to build a 15-16" Atlas Van Lines Hydroplane from Depron. You could literally build the whole hull in one night. Lets build some more!!! Keep us posted with any of your findings also Rek! I plan on running next week!
