Chris: I have a similar setup. Mine is a 2x4 workbench with a shelf built with strong ties from Home Depot. All straight cuts. MDF for the surfaces. I put a set of wheels from Amazon on it that have a lever that allow you to put on the ground and also some levelers. Being able to get around your project is so key and something like this makes it easy!
I agree!!

I said that I would post a pic of my jig… this is it! On the bottom (the underside) I screwed a couple pieces of wood so that it sits inside the tray of the cart and keeps the jig from sliding off. Building it like this using a cart works really well for me. I move it all over and don’t have to worry about disturbing anything not dry.

Is the jig box made of MDF or something else?

It’s MDF, it has glue all over it where I have spilled stuff or wiped glue off my fingers. I sand the glue down and wipe it clean from time to time so I guess in the first pic it give you the allusion that it’s plywood.

Bought 3 of those carts at Northern Tool when they were on sale... I use them at work to roll all of my tools and materials around the job..nice to have everything at arms reach in one place!

They are very sturdy! In fact, I have one out in the garage right now with a Turbo 350 transmission sitting on top and a NP271 transfer case on the bottom tray!

I keep one locked up in the bed of my dually as I'm always moving some kind of equipment or parts, and the cart make things so much easier!!

Currently I only have a interior door blank that I use for building planes/wings,, but Chris's idea of MDF is the way to go. I see a trip to Homies Depot in my future!!

I build a bunch of plugs out of MDF to make molds off of. It’s a love hate thing with me. I love how true it is but hate the weight and mess it makes!! lol.

I have to agree, MDF is one you love and hate. The biggest thing I've found is you have to keep it dry. If it gets wet, it expands like a kitchen sponge and loses all of it's rigidity. It might have been just the one piece I've had an issue with but I've gone to doing everything I can t keep my jigs dry ever since. It seems that it's just water that does that as I've spilled both mixed and unmixed epoxy on the stuff and it didn't seem to affect it

Lots of progress happening!!!

Yes both servos will be outside the box. The throttle will be right next to the motor and the rudder servo is mounted in the side wall of the inner tub.

And there were two with the decks on! Well almost, I still have a few more pieces to put on but the hard part is done!

Chris, very nice build. I am a fan of the 82U55. The one am building is the Dave Frank version from plans. Sport 40 size though.

I’m surprised at the popularity and how many of us model boaters like this design. After Phil Thomas told me there still competitive today and a few still racing today, did I realize how many manufacturers make this kit, and or fiberglass types.

I have to update my build thread soon because mine is ready for final Apoxsee and paint.

nice work Chris

I have been busting my tail on these two boats and got a ton of stuff done this week. I have a few loose ends to address in the morning but then I’m starting on the cowling. With any luck I will be shooting primer in the next week or so. These two boats are more alike then any two hulls that I have ever built. That’s including all the rtr Hurricane monos that I have built and I built a bunch of those hulls.
