i'am looking for batteries for my p-spec tunnel.I'm new to FE so i need a little help.It has an aquacraft 60 amp ESC and aquacraft 2030 motor.looking at nano tech lipos but need to know what "C" rating i should go with.I looked on hobbykings site and they have 5000 35-70c for $53.90...45-90c for $58.33 and 65-130c for $76.00.whats the point of a higher C, will it add more speed or longer run times?? Also has anybody had any luck with zippy lipos?

thanks Tony

The high C-rating would come in handy for high speed runs and max efforts runs. You probably will not notice adifference.

The C rating gives the maximum current draw. A 5000 mah battery can draw 100 amps at a 20 C rating (5000 divided by 1000 times 20), 200 amps at 40 C. and 675 amps at 135 C. The numbers over 200 amps are ridiculous except as an indication of what will happen if you touch the connectors together. I have no idea how manufacturers come up with such high numbers. The C rating is also related to the internal resistance, a more important factor. The internal resistance gives an idea of how hot the battery will get at a given current. This resistance has been dropping very significantly over the years. For reference, a P limited boat averages 80 to 100 amps with spikes to around 120 amps. For more information read Electric Power Basics.

so i'm guessing a 40c will be more than enough?.. :)

Hey Tony, check out the outboard forum here, and at the top there is a topic pinned that is called "how to get into fe tunnel the right way" or something along those lines. There is links there to battery's as well. Its very helpful!

It should be If the C rating on the pack is accurate. Many budget manufacturers fudge the numbers. Get the highest C rating batteries you can afford. The cooler your packs run, the longer they will last.

I bought a bunch of the 20$$ 4-cells 20-40c from hobby king awhile back and they are alright for farting around. I then purchased some sky lipos 40-80c and noticed a world of difference. Check them out also...

I got batts from Chris the battery man here in Or.and wow 60 c and 3s made a huge diference in my crawler.from hobby king batts. He custom made my pacs to my specs and they are Awsome.I have a pack comming coming for my 4pl radio.he is great to work with.Just serch chris the baterie man.

just did a search online and everybody seems to be out of sky lipos..(5000mah 4S)...do you guys know of anywhere else i might be able to find some

Thanks Tony

I've been trying to get some for my airplanes for months. Same thing, out of stock.

Honestly it is worth buying good cells upfront. They will last longer and perform consistently if taken care of. You can look for year old Flightpowers or Thunderpowers which will get you buy. The lipo I have found for the money to date is the Dinogy brand. Same quality and chemistry as the FP's and TP's but very reasonable prices. Typically they run $25 per cell for a 5000mAh cell. So a 4S 5000mAh pack is $100. Mark F who sells them also has larger 6000mAh cells which are great for 1P spec systems to give you a little extra buffer.
