Lets hear your lipo stories in boats good or bad.

I have had 3 5s3p packs go bad because of cells..

2 my fault.. they got wet and I didn't dry them out so the tabs had crud on them. (1 was fixed the second one couldn't be fixed safely due to the amount of of pitting on the tabs)

1 had a cell drop below 2.8 volts and loose voltage (fixed at no charge to me)

Hi brooks, I've been playing with lipos in boats and I like'em. I too worry about wrecking them like getting them wet but I think what we need to do is maybe silicon the ends or corosion x them or something of that nature. I have 2 4s3p packs[12000 mah] that I wire in paralel in a 30inch mono and it does a little over 40 for 15 minutes. I am going to try and get something for my SAW event in Nov. to show off and let people see there capabillity. I have a 32 cell mono that I will try 10s on and see what happens. It would be cool if you could make it and see what that 1/8 scale can do.

Lipos are the future no mater what the worry warts think.

yep since getting mine wet I seal the ends of the packs also.. water would ahve to get pretty high in the boat before they would get wet.. course if that happens I have other problems then just my cells

If your trying to get LiPoly into NAMBA, your doing it all backwards. Start with N-1 offshore and a 2 cell pack, not two 15 cell packs.

It's not a matter of if you will have a fire, it's a matter of when you will have a fire.

that's my opinion

thanks

Steve

I respect your opinion steve.. always have probably always will.. granted I don't agree with all your comments but, thats your opinion

N2 offshore would be the place to start. but, I am not the only one that would like to use them in 1/8th scale either.

Steve's 100% right! Start with a lower voltage class and work up. Not the other way around.

I personally don't want to pit next to a guy charging a stick of dynamite next to me. I don't even want to be under the same tent!

But the fireworks could be cool to view from the next tent over! :D

you already have been under and near the so called dynamite.. I was charging my lipos at the nats..

If I new that I would have worn my fireproof suit and reupped my life insurance policy! :p

haha

Hey, next year we'll require all LiPo turds to be in one area and I'll design a sprinkler system with a fire pump and everything for the tent that can handle it.

That would work.

hey I wouldn't let it burn anybody stuff but, Terry's.. of coure his boat have been in fire before but, not because of lipos

What would be best to seal the ends of Lipo packs? Wouldn't silicone sealer ultimately outgas and corrode the internals? Maybe DP 370? Any ideas?

I remember when I told Chris that I just plugged it in and it went thermal nuclear.

I was talking about my Hacker77. I think that was the fourth speedo that month for me. Dangerous to plug in on the bench. Shouldn't have done trhat. Plugged in a Kontronik backwards. They glow before they burst into flames. Love that smell though.

I think Kelly's question was boat specific.

Has anyone any record of a LiPo boat fire?

Jim I use hatch tape.. I just go top to bottom then side to side making sure I overlap on the sides.

I also was think tool handle dip would work for dipping the ends in.. plus it would be easy to remove if you need to
