I have to say, I think this stinks.

At 1:33 PM I sent you an email saying

"I assume from the picture that the hull is new, is this correct? If so, I'll probably take it. What would be the total price shipped to NC, zip 27312? Also, is Paypal ok?"

This is certainly expressing pretty strong interest. You answered my questions at 2:33. I was away from my computer for a few hours. At 6:14 I replied saying:

"I have some more questions, but I'll take it. A total of $123 via paypal works for you? My shipping information in Paypal is correct."

At 6:37 you responded to this email and said NOTHING about the boat being sold. The only mention about it being sold is in the post I quoted, which was over an hour AFTER I had emailed that I would take it, and email to which YOU responded.

I'll close this out by saying apology accepted and offering a suggestion. If the item will go to the first person to pay, rather than the first person to say they'll take it, it would be good to say so up front.

I would be careful in doing the first to pay route. You can easily get doubled up payments from folks; which, though innocent enough, screams of fraud.

Once I receive a commitment from a buyer, I keep up the communication, and give him a few days to get the payment out. IF htere are other parties, I politely inform them that the item is sold pending payment, but that I will contact them if the sale falls through. Conversely, I will also notify them when the sale is completed so that they don't wait for an item that is no longer available. I also tell them how far down the line they are; runnerup, 3rd , etc. THis gives the potential buyer an idea if they should wait to see how the deal shakes out, or to move on. If I were fifth in line, I'd probably just pass on the deal. The odds of all the other interested parties passing are pretty slim, atleast around here. At the same time, if everyone in fornt of me bowed out, there must be something fishy, so I probably ought to pass for another reason.

This may not be the best way to handle it, but it seems to have worked for me. THe biggest thing is to have respect for hte other parties, and to communicate.
