I'm referring to my boat as a jap since I started it just after Rod released the 12 plans and I have no affiliation with the jae's. I talked with Rod, over the phone & Ron Z. via e-mail about my project. We talked very briefly about the dimensions blowing the plans up 25% would produce & Rod said do it,so I did. All this is,is a homebrew experiment of the free plans. A few notes....As Rod will tell you, this boat has no adjustments, so my sponson tubes are just that, non-adjustable. I cut & fit a piece of balsa for the front & rear tube & epoxied them home. No boom collars. No multiple piece sponson tubes, If I smash beyond repair, so be it. I used a piece of c/f for the rudder mount. The front sponsons are pink foam the same thickness as the zippkits, I think 1". Hopefully this will float the boat!! I am going to use an engine mount just like the 12, only larger to fit the Nova 21 I have for this boat, just waiting for my cousin to finish that up, then It's go time again. What do y'all think?

Joe,

Give me a call today. Tall Fella wants to buy your OPS-45 motor.

I need your phone number for my new phone. I have 2-JAE-12's built,

we will have to go test them before winter gets here. :D

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

Your JAE 21G looks REALLY good. Are you sure about keeping the one piece boom arrangement? Just askng.

The one piece booms are it for now Ron, you're in favor of the multiple pieces I assume. I may change that down the road. I suppose I can cut them & do a "coupler" type of scenario. Thank you very much for the compliment, that means a lot coming from you!!

Looks good! the thread caught my eye, since I am starting my .21 jae, only its going to be a brushless 4s hull. sponsons are finished....tub is going to be traced and cut today.

Keep up the good work and pics look good on your build.

Patrick thanks for the compliment. since your boat is electric are you going to call it the zap-a-jap?? Being mostly ignorant in the electric boat world, what does 4s mean? Are you powering this boat with an Aquacraft motor/esc? And what speeds are you anticipating with a "4S" setup?

thanks, joe

Thanks..for the message.

4s is a Lipo, and is 14.8volts. I use a Neu motor 1515 1y, and have had great luck with a tiny outrunner, called a scorpion hk 3026 that is a powerhouse in riggers. I run that motor on 6s, or 22.2 volts, lipo as well. The scorpions in larger sizes are what the thunderboats are using as their stock powerplant in the seattle area. I try to stay away from the stock aquacraft electronics...pulling 100 amps or more, would fry them. Esc's are the weakest link in any brushless setup in a boat...but things are getting easier...just not too many manufacturers making strictly boat escs. This is a similar tub design to what I have been building in other brushless riggers, about 8 soo far. The sponson design of the JAE is totally different, so I am looking forward to testing it out. Most of my riggers run or have run 50-60s.
