When I first started this project I knew that a ton of the little or no horsepower .12 and .21 motors with car pipes would probably be coming out of retirement to be used in the JAE outriggers.

We had tested the boat with the higher horsepower motors like the Novarossi and such but we did not have any of the lower performance car motors with car pipes to test.We knew the lower performance motors would work but just how good they would work was the question.

I knew the overhang on the outside of the sponsons, tub and ski of the JAE boat would definitely help these motors that are down on power during the launch. That is why I included the overhang on the JAE.12G plans and kit.

Now that several of these boats have been built and have been run with these low power motors,it has become apparent the addition of the overhang on the sides of the sponsons, tub and ski was not absolutely necessary. While it does help a bit to have the outside overhang, the removal of that overhang definetly isn't impeding the launch of the JAE.12G outrigger.

I would recommend the overhang off the back of the sponsons and tub should remain, but the outside overhangs can go away with no affect on the boats launch performance.

Thanks for that new info. I will be starting my build soon...I'm going to be running one of Glenn's 5 port NR motors so I should have plenty of get up and go there...

That's good news, especially on the right sponson as I noticed that it interferes with the turn fin. My thought was to sand it off in that area.

With Joe Petro's fin (I didn't try a Grimracer MV fin on it) I had to add a washer that was provided under the fin to help get more clearance. Thoughts were to add two under there but I felt that it would compromise strength.

I did find some 6-32 3/4" button-head self-tapping screws at the hobby shop just for a smoother look.

Glad this was brought up, I went ahead and sanded the area that would interfere with the turn fin.
