JAE 45 Rudder?

Should I run a Speedmaster .21 or .45 hydro rudder? I ask because I have a .45 rudder and it sure seems too big? I think I am running their mini rudder on my JAE .21. I wish I remembered....

Use the 21 rudder, that is what I have on my 45 RR

Use the Speedmaster .45 rudder on the JAE boat.....The longer .45 rudder stops the boat from pulling to the right....

If I recall Martin Truex and David Hall suggest the rudder be about 2" below the bottom of the ski, so unless the 21 rudder is very long you would have to go with a 45 size rudder. Now the width of the rudder was not called out.

You can shape/cut the 45 size speedie as needed.....mine is mounted lower to keep the water entering the blade and the 2" below the ski is a minimum...... I was way deeper, as the ski height can starve the water when the transom lifts..... boats' in storage 'an waitin it out.... hang on to it! Mike

45 rudder with 2,2" long blade in my JAE 45 G working great.

Speedmaster - SPDR 001-H Bolted right onto mine. Transom mounting bracket is small & the blade can be cut to correct length..... the 45 stuff is too large.

All JAE designs have not been sensitive to rudder location.........they have ,however,have been sensitive to rudder depth.....you figure out where and how you would like to mount a rudder and

let everybody know what you came up with....... ......I sure wouldn't be cutting off any rudders before running the boat in race water.......

There is nothing like good steering control to boost a drivers confidence..... B)

Hey Martin.....jump in here if you have anything to add....you have more experience than anybody with JAE rudders........

That was my problem with the Speedmaster 45 rudder. The mounting bracket takes up the whole right side of the JAE 45 transom....
