kentley porter showed up at hagerstown with a jae .21 rigger this past weekend.he had just completed building it from plans about 10 days before the race. even with limited test & setup time, this boat was stupid fast!!! he ran in about lane 20, lapping the field at will. the "field" included racers such as chris wittrig & preston hall, among others (myself included). when he wanted to, he could run on the bouys as well, just didn't NEED to....... granted, kentley is a master at getting the utmost out of a boat, but the thing was ballistic. he said it had been radared at 81.3 - 81.4 consistently, in the same trim as what he raced it at. i told myself i was going to build one when they became available, this damn sure sealed the deal for me. very different looking hull, center ski, no rear shoes. front sponsons are very long & slender, nothing like current rigger designs. don't everybody go screaming at rod, kentley is helping refine the hull, testing for the jae team. when the design is ready, we will get the end result. from what i saw last weekend, it WILL be worth the wait. saying that the current riggers we are running will be obsolete might be a little much, but they will be playing catch up, imho B) . all i can say is wow, WOW, DOUBLE DAMN WOW!!!!!!!!! hats off to all the jae team, thanx in advance :D .

Robin,

A few years back here on I/W I went 81+ MPH in heat race trim

at the Fall Flint Time Trial, and quite a few people thought we

would never go 80+ or be able to heat race at 80 MPH. I guess it

can be done. I saw videos of Japanese boats 15 years ago going

this fast or faster, but most were 45 hydros not 21 hydros. It is

a really good design and it will get even better as it developed

further. I know a few others running mid to high 70's now with their

JAE-21's so it is just not only one boat going that fast. Our 21 & 45 are

being built and we should get some test time before winter hits here.

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

Kentley's JAE 21 is Very Impressive, it is the Fastest 21 Heat Racing boat I have ever seen. The boat turns like it is on rails and will handle rough water better than any 21 Rigger I have ever seen. When he was testing the boat I was checking the speed with a Stalker Radar gun and saw pass after pass of 82+ MPH in Heat Race Trim. Rod did a Great Job when Designing the boat, Simple and Super Fast. I will be in VA, in a few week, we will get the video recorder out and shot some footage of the boat running.

Happy Boating,

MTB

I saw Rod Geraghty running his in Hobart and it kicked tail!

Another waiting list to get on once Joe says that he's cutting the .21 kits.

I really do appreciate all the accolades but if there was ever a boat that was developed with lots of help it is the JAE series of boats.

David Hall and I had talked about this boat for the better part of the last three years before actually building one.

It is true I built the first boat with the motor set back and boy was it an eye opener for both David and myself.......however if it weren't for the help of the other Jackasses,David Hall,Truex Jr. & Zaker Jr., the JAE boats as you see them today would still be a long, long time away.Every person in this joint venture has made an equal contribution to this boats developement.

For a long time now I believed I had an idea as to what could possibly inject a big shot in the arm to model boating.Without the help of the other three participants,I doubt I could have lived long enough to bring this idea to fruition.

The latest contribution made by Kentley Porter just added a big piece to the JAE performance puzzle. It did however take us awhile to convince Kentley that "non-trips" are actually absolutely worthless and add to a boats instability..... :D ...but thats another subject for another day.

The JAE boat is a great smooth water boat,a great rough water boat,it is faster than we ever thought it would be,it does absolutely nothing stupid, launches easy, will buzz a ton of prop and it turns like you have never seen,etc,etc,etc.......and all this without "ONE" adjustment on the boat.....It is all so simple when you start to understand mother nature just a little bit, and we are all learning more every day.

JAE's promise to model boating......All that we have learned will be available to everybody in free plans and Zippkits in the very near future.

We guarantee if you build the boat as shown in the plans or kit you will have what has been described above.....

Enjoy the builds....Rod Geraghty [for the entire JAE design team]

Hi Ron,

If your referring to the Blue and Black JAE 21 prototype in Hobart, that was actually me.We were happy with the results, still testing a "few" things. Thanks for watching the boat.

Ron, sorry, I should have known by your "trademark" colors.

Can someone tell me if the .21 and .45 versions of this boat are just scaled up .12s? I'm guessing there are differences, but thought I'd ask anyhow, since I already have the .12 plans, and am patiently waiting for the .21s to become available...

Thanks,

darin, i'm sure rod will correct me if i'm wrong, but...... they started out as scaled up .12's, but have been modified some, as testing dictated changes were needed. that is my understanding from conversations with rod g. joe at zipkits told me that the .21 kits should be ready around dec. 1, if all goes according to plan. no pricing yet, joe said he needed to cut & build 1 or 2, to be sure of the material costs. that's what i know now, anxiously awaiting the .21 boat's release, as are many others. you prolly should e-mail zipkits, & get on the waiting list for a kit for a couple of reasons. 1 - to get a kit quickly, when they are available, & 2 - so joe can anticipate the demand & produce enough for all that want one.

Thank You for the info.

I'm not sure I want the kit, because I'll need to do one up for FE, not Nitro, and the materials and hatches will likely be different, but when the plans are available, it's GAME ON! Someone e-mailed me to let me know that there were design changes for the .21 boat, so I'm going to wait for those specific plans to become available... then the winter project can begin... ;)
