Is there a general rule of thumb for the balance point of a sport hydro

I thought I had heard 1 inch behind the transom of the sponsons...but don't know if that was riggers, sport hydros...or just a certain boat. So thought I would check to see if there is a general rule of thumb for all sport hydros.

88 to 90% of the after plane length. Measured from the front pads to the transom. You could get closer to the pads if needed.

I would think you would have to consider the boat's ability to generate lift if it is a lifting hull and its center of lift.
