Back from the pond. But you will have to wait till tomorrow because I have had one to many Michelob Ultras! :D :D :D :D :p :p :p

As Grim would say, "Rock on!"

So Kently or Preston,

How did the boat run? Was it like a smaller brother to the 45 shooter?

What propellers did you guys test on it. I hope this is all coming in the

real results. I'm just curious Preston how the boat runs? I have two

in the shop right now.

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

Finally I got on the ball and finished this thing. It turned out pretty good except KP pointed out where water got under the paint. I think that's the first time in 10 years. Oh well, I'll fix it. Ok, that is somewhat of an estimate of how well I sealed the boat; minimal epoxy. There was 1.4 oz added to the weight of the boat by the paint. Overall the RTR dry weight is 3lb 15.6oz. Ok, somebody say it's heavy.

I did make some minor corrections that I felt necessary to the boat. Who knows if they were necessary? I had discussed these with Jon and all questions pertaining to these should go to him. I just want to be honest and not be perceived as bad-mouthing Jon. On a side note, I don't want to get into any Blackjack/Warlock stuff either.

Getting to the point, we went to the lake and threw the boat in with the Stalker Pro radar gun in hand. It was hot, the humidity was very high, therefore the air density sucked but the water was glass. First pass - 70mph! We tried about 4 or 5 ABC props with a top speed of 75mph! It seemed to get up on the pipe very well. The boat turns great! Turn exist speeds of 67mph! We were only there for an hour, a tank of fuel, and everything went great. Some remote possibilities were seen in the handling but I won't know anything till I get in race conditions. I still want to play with the engine placement for the purpose of weight distribution. Currently the tail weight Jon wants isn't there. I'll move the engine back a little at a time and see what happens. Even with the engine all the way back I had to add 4 AA cells to the tail to get the 22% tail weight. I can always do this at a later time if needed.

Now to go win some races. If nothing else I finally went 75 with a 21. (Major wood)

So, is 80 possible? Kentley can tell you later. I want the trophy, he wants the record.

Nice boat!

P.S. I'll get to the cowl later. ;)

Preston...

I see you have one of the Irwin "S" pipes on your Warlock. Maybe you or Kently could help the guy on the other thread out. I think his name's Ron J. Jr. ;)

Ron J,

LOL! They need to make another run on those pipes.

Clay,

No cowl means more incentive to be up front. I'll get it on when I have the motor position finalized.

Ron Z,

Real numbers are nice. I don't know how much credit I deserve but I'm excited. I have been testing some things concerning the rudder and turn fin situation that we discussed before. I ended up learning more about a Crapshooter than anything. It doesn't react to some things the same as all other boats I have had. On one particular issue I learned that I had been going backwards the whole time.

Excessive rudder length makes the front too tight. When the front is too tight the boat is darty and hops. Also was making it pull hard to the inside. Figured that out by trial and error. I had been tightening the front using shims to counter looseness but that was multipling my problems. When I say tight I mean a 3 degree angle of attack. My CS runs a much greater AOA. So now I need to find the BEST way to tighten the boat down.

Getting close on the turn fin also.

Holy Crap every one i know is having` those problems with there shooters,no one has considered rudder being too long. Most of the time a razor sharp prop would help the situation but not fix pull right, too tight and darty U DA MAN......Mikey

preston that is great news. i also did some testing last sunday with a stalker pro gun. it was 69-73 mph. but my boat is 4 1/4 lbs. it is al in the set up. what problems are you having with the handling? let me know and i should be able to tell you what is wrong.

as for the crapshooter handling problem, i have mine solved for now. i dont like having to have soo much left rudder in it.

Mikey,

I have a feeling that Preston was trying something different than Stu rudder (dont know to be a fact but I was given that impression that he was going to try a longer rudder in another topic.) I will also tell you that to short of a rudder is even worse than to long of a rudder. Stu was gracious enough to make me up rudders of 3 different lengths and all were tested. His standard rudder is best.

Preston,

work with strut angle to tighten the front of the boat up a bit. This takes very small changes (.005). You get it to tight and you will be going along fine and it will stuff very violant. A little strut angle and you may actually see a little more speed and it may become a little less darty (gets the drag off the rear sponsons).

I have spent the last two years doing this too. I would get so mad and confused and then mad again. THEN SOMEONE SHOWED MY A LITTLE SOMETHING IN ATLANTA and it has kind of just gotten better from there.
Allen

P.s. I will not tell you "I told you so on the longer rudder" since you already know, which is evident by you bringing up the turn fin thing again. LMAO But in all fairness I would have to say you told me so about turn fin sharpening. And congrats on the 20 boat.

Well I guess I'll have to get tweakin' on my SGX21 eh P man? :p

Seriously though, great that you got her goin' good. We should have some real fun next club race! B)

The strut is kind of the only thing left. I want to see exactly how this boat will react to strut depth changes compared to strut angle changes. I agree, the changes are slight. Actually I never see any speed changes and I can't make the boat do anything bad. I always have to wait for the race and see what happens there. But I want to say that I am at the stage of looking for perfection and that the boat is already very fast.

Your turn to share now.

Jon,

I'll be working on weight distribution starting with the engine placement. I'll give you a call for sure if needed.

I don't like left either. But I really can't say there is a lot trimmed into my boats. I have found in the past that a lot of things that counter the purpose of left rudder actually made the boat(s) slower than if I just used left rudder.
