There will be some pictures on our web site at

and Yes it was a GAS Crackerbox. Ed and Dee really worked hard to get allof those records it would be nice to have a few of the German boaters come here and try to set some 100+ IMPBA records.

Hey Bill Are the records Ed and Dee set all electric? and what is the differance between NAMBA Saw and IMPBA. The N1 Mono is record is way off the pace of the current NAMBA record. Did you guys have tough water conditions?

There is no difference between the SAW course but there maybe a difference between the rules for the classes. Our fast electric rules are on the IMPBA web site www.impba.net but I don't know the rules for NAMBA fast electric.

Yes all of the records set by Ed and Dee are Fast electric classes.

IMPBA probably has more classes, based on motors (they allow more fixed endbell classes) and hull types (tunnels have their own classes). The current IMPBA records are pretty low compared even to Ed's previous records (old maximum was Dalecki's 72+ mph in S-Hydro), but the new SAWs give everyone a rare chance to set new records. Personally I'd like to see racers from current IMPBA-sanctioned clubs (like Jay Boyd) push the records, rather than have current NAMBA record holders come out simply get an opportunity to "rubber-stamp" their credentials. But then again faster is better, and the best way to learn to go fast is to learn from the experts. NAMBA record holders showing up at an IMPBA event may take the lion's share of records at first, but the next year.... ;)

One thing that really stood out a this event is the difference between Fast Electrics and GAS and Nitro boats.

Ed and Dee Hughey were setting records left and right and a couple of times thier boats would trip and literally go under water and get stuck in the mudd and unlike nitro or Gas boats when these eventually popped up they would keep on running and ED and Dee would bring them on back in alive. Really something to see. Kind of hard for the timing lights to catch them when they went under the water!

That reminds me of the 2001 LA SAWs when Matthias Boese dove his 8-cell rigger under water on Friday, and it stayed down. Sunday evening Mark Grim took the retrieval boat out and with a long handled pole found Matthias' boat (he heard the aluminum pole strike the fiberglass hull), and up floated the rigger! Stuck in the mud for 2.5 days and when he opened it up it only had an ounce or so of water inside. The water depth was between 8 and 10 feet!
