Did anyone who has a Hummingbird 60/80 hydro have any problems mounting the SpeedMaster strut and rudder assembly? If I mount the strut in the centre there is not enough space left to put the rudder bracket. Also the bolts I got with the strut kit are about 3mm to short and the rudder linkage that hooks up to the control rod that runs from the servo is on the wrong side, it ends up on the opposite side of the bracket that has an elongated hole for the purpose of the rod to go through.

Do I have the wrong running gear or is this how they all are?

You are fine. Jim has been using Speedmaster harware for a while. It might not be a bad idea to give him a call, but I think I can answer your questions.

1) Mount the strut in the center but only use one of the angle brackets. (the left side bracket)

2) Screw length. You can use threaded inserts in the transom and use the supplied hardware or just go buy longer screws so you can use a lock nut.

3) Rudder control arm. I think this was just assembled backwards from the start. Simply remove the hinge pin from the assembly and place the control arm on the desired side.

When I ran the Hummers I ground a little off the right side strut bracket & a little off the rudder bracket until they fit, butted up together. The stock screws are too short, just get longer ones. You are putting the rudder on the right, correct??? I did just check & it seems the newer Speedmaster pivot blocks have the holes reversed. I looked at an old one & it's correct for right side placement, the new one on the parts wall is correct for left placement (which will be fine for my scale). You might want to ask Bill McGraw about that.....

Bill McGraw makes a right and a left hand pivot block for the large hydro rudders. If you flip either over to get the arm on the other side the holes don't line up for the blade. Just went thru this with the twin I'm building. Luckily Bill's house is only 15 minutes away! :)
