I was wondering if the engine mount in my Hummingbird was sufficient enough. Are those nylon countersunk bolts enough. Is the nylon used for weight saving. I was wanting to use ally bolts. Is that a problem? I've also heard from other people on here that have one of these boats that the engine mount is junk. I don't have much time at all for leisure, so I want to make it right the first time. What is the best layout for engine mounts in hydros?

Mark,

The nylon bolts are strong enough. But the problem is the mounts are too rigid, practically solid mounts. This leads to a lot of vibration in the boat which leads to other problems.

Both Craig and I adapted conventional rubber type mounts and made new mount beams to suit. I used Commodore air filter mounts, these are M6 threads, narrow, and should be cheap.

Absolutely, positively toss the the screws & the rubber washers. Go to your local hardware store & buy some 1/4-20 nylon screws & rubber grommets like in pic below. Drill tub out to match grommets. Use nylon spacers to achieve correct spacing.....

The stock engine rails are fine & are threaded 1/4-20. The stock nylon spacers should be about right once you toss the thin rubber washer & go with the grommets. This conversion will probably cost you about $5.00, will be lightweight & plenty strong. :D :D :D

Hey Don, Is that the same setup sgx's use. I've never seen one apart to see it's exact construction?
