The weather is just perfect today to do spray painting in my yard. I do not have a spray booth.

I have patched some gel coat cracks with bondo. The repaired area has been sanded to 400 and is smooth. I am wondering if I can just shoot white over the repair without a primer coat. I am using Klasskote white.

I know the proper way is to primer it first and then feather sand and spray color. But I only have today to paint and I cannot do both. Just wondering if I can get away without primer.

yes you can.i use klass kote white with the flat hardener,on wood, that has 1 or 2 coates of brushed on clear on it. we use this as a base for neon(clear with neon powder mixed in)

All depends on the quality of the job you want.... but I've used white as a base coat and primer.

Got it done this afternoon! Not a perfect job but will do. I sprayed many light coats until the color of the filler did not show through. End up with a lot of orange peel, which I am sure will need some rubbing.

To my amazement, all the K&B superpoxy and Hobbypoxy in my stock pile is still useable! Some are 30 years old!!

The touch up job was not perfect. I have orange peel and in the oversrapyed area, there is grainy/sandy texture. The paint is fully cured after a week and I want to smooth out the finish somewhat. Not looking for a concour finish. Just want to make it more pleasing to the eyes.

So, do I need to wet sand it to 1000 grit first before using rubbing compound? Or can I just attach it with rubbing compound? Do I need to finish it with the 3M swirl mark remover? In the past when I tried to use rubbing compound, I did not get the same kind of gloss as a as-sprayed finish. Any other tips you can share?

Thanks,

kez

I would wet sand the hull with 400 and lay a tack coat followed by two wet coats on it and call it good.Easier to repaint it then wet sand and buff it out.
