I have a Boris Mazor Gen IV flow meter and I would appreciate a tutorial and tips on how to use it properly.

Thanks,
D

Get your boat / engine running decent , disconnect fuel line open carb and flow , record the number . Continue to tune and record numbers and current weather . Before each outing clean fuel filter and flow , doing this after you have fired the engine flow on a wet needle . If you blow a plug or encounter any weird stuff happening , check filter and flow . It will help you keep running well . Never pinch off the line with the pump running .

David,

Tom is correct with the general process itself. After finding the correct number, I reset my 3rd channel setting to zero and change the 3rd needle to the number recorded while flowing the engine. That always gives me the max change available for the lean and rich settings for the 3rd channel remote.

I also go one step further. I have a temp, humidity and air density gauges as well. I record in a book, every boat, engine, pipe & length, plug, prop, fuel, lake location, and the readings for the air density, temp, humidity gauges and the flow meter reading. This book allows me to duplicate readings for nearly anywhere for any boat. While it is not foolproof I can get real close most every time.

One additional thing. No two flowmeters read the same, even those of the same generation. At a race several years ago, several of us tested an engine with multiple meters and got different numbers. A few were relatively close, within 10 points, but others were much different. So the moral to the story is to use the same flowmeter for consistent readings that you rely upon. The Boris meters are the real deal and are much improved from the older propane units, safer too.

.

David,

I still use both flow meters. The Boris meter does not compensate for air density changes.

The old propane meter does. These are just reference points anyways. If you run a third channel needle it will get you in the ball park.

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

Hi, Mark! Are you using old generation of my flow meter? Your flow meter can be upgrade. All latest flow meter GEN 3, 4, 4M very sensitive to air density and not needs calibration. Boris

Boris,

How much is the upgrade?

It does give you a good reference point for sure.

Mine is one of the first ones you made available to us.

I really like the big meter one you started making a few

years ago. Can the upgrade come with the bigger meter?

Let Me Know Please?

I also would like to know. I have air density meter that I use but it would definitely be easier if the unit automatically compensated.

Yes. GEN-4 automatically compensates air density. Boris

cost for upgrade would be interesting.... mine is pretty old .... nimh pack model.... think gen 1

Paul,

Almost 4 years ago Boris upgraded my Gen 1 to a Gen 3A (current for the time) for about $80. Well worth it. Also sent him my air density meter and he built a matching box for it for $35. Also well worth it. Send it to him and get it done.
