One of my riggers has an attitude problem when turning left. It can handle a little left rudder but any more and it will dive  in and spin around, end of race!!

Basicaly its and Eagle with a G260. Rudder is mounted on the left side as was my other boat which did not have this trouble. Is it possible for the rudder to lift the transom when you turn left if it was kicked back slightly. Any theories would be apreciated.

Thnaks

Hey Dave-

Well for openers riggers, or any 3 point hydro for that matter, really aren't designed to go left. Your turn fin gives you the pivot point for your right hand turns, there's nothing there to help you going left. The problem seems to get more pronounced in the heavier gas hydros I've seen, with the condition worse in those with the CG being a little off. Also why did you put the rudder on the left? The correct placement on the Eagles is on the right.

The rudder was placed exactly where the old boat has it. do you think it may be better for the boat to have it on the right side? It would be easyily moved as the tub has not been painted yet. I do need to move the CG foreward a little so this may help too. I have always built most of my riggers and have experimented with different rudder placements. the only two boats that i have had that will not turn left at all is this one and a 45 SG eagle. the boat has only ran this week end at the south australian State Titles and will need a lot more setting up but i was very pleased with the engine and pipe set up ( Thanks IAN :D ) I went home with a third after finishing three out of 5 races. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I just need Nitrocrazed to get his rigger done so we can have some close racing.

Thanks for your advice Don.

Hi Dave

What is the problem with your SG 45 as I've been running all size of SG's since its release and all my riggers are able to make left turns despite not being designed for this purpose but even unexpected left correction shouldn't let you to be in trouble if the boat is a SG or SGX.

I would suggest you to replace the rudder to the right side and check the aligment of your front sponsons once they work pretty well parallel(there is no toe in any SG's).

The Cg moving foreward will also help!

Thanks Gil

It was a SG and has now gone to another owner and after Ian and I had it racing over probably 3 years we could not sort out the left turn issue. minor left was the only amount you could do and amy more would see it spin and dive. I am confident in getting my gas to run better but i am interested in other opinions.

Thanks

Dave

It is true that riggers really aren't going to turn left but usually they roll over instaed of spinning out. With this in mind, I have found that a little longer rudder helps with EASING to the left. But move the rudder to the right side first and see what happens.
