Here is a video of my Hammerhead 12 running with a NR 5 port using an O.S AX 46 needle, Texan pipe @ 2-1/8" and a 1440 B/C from Props4U. Just got a 40X53 B/C from Mark. Hopefully I will be able to try it out this weekend.

using an O.S AX 46 needle....running very nice...keep up the good work....

Marty, great job...I just love that sound! Yeah keep playing with props and maybe squeeze the pipe a little shorter...there is another level the rpm will reach. Is the motor coming up to a nice warm (almost to hot to touch) temp?

Yeah! I saved an eighth of an inch on the pipe just to be safe. I think it's feeling the heat. If I run it at full throttle for 8-10 laps, it gets pretty stinkin' hot, but not anywhere near burning up the engine. My buddy has a point and read thermometer. It's made by Fluke, Do you use them, or do you just go by touch?

I go by touch and by what the motor is telling me. If I can hold my fingers on the head for more than 2 seconds without it burning me then it may need more heat...if I can't touch it without getting burnt then it is too hot. If the motor ever sags during the run from heat, I bring it in immediately and either richen the needle or add a touch (or a touch more if you already have water on it) of water cooling.

Quit being "safe" on the pipe length! Shorten it till it doesn't like to pull the prop good and then go back out a bit until it does pull it good.

Looks pretty good Marty, I agree with Glenn shorten the pipe, I run mine at 2" and I think I can go in a bit further. You will know when it hits the sweet spot it will gain a bunch more rpm. Try the 40 x 53 I think you will be surprised.
