Greater Sacramento / Elk Grove aera

Does anyone know a place to test and tune or fun run in the Sacramento aera ? I know about the race sites like Lake Minden etc. I'm not ready for racing quite yet .... Looking for fellow boaters to learn from and run with. Thanks in advance .
