I have a unbuilt rigger that is for a 27cc petrol / gas I want to try a FE set up not to race ..just a fast fun set up what suggestions please? 8s or ??? many thanks

That is a Tyler question. That big of hull you going to the class limits. Which I think is T. I think you would be better off going with one of your 45 boats converted. That will do well on a P or Q setup.

thanks for reply, not wanting to use in any class to race, just wanted to put something together for that size rigger. fun boat really, I have done a 21 and 45 rigger with 4 and 6 cell set ups but not sure about larger

Ive tried it with a 12s setup. I went back to a gas engine to be honest with you. In my opinion electric conversions make much more sense for nitro boats. if you look up the 2 lap records gas riggers are just as fast as electric. its all within a half second or so. its far cheaper to run gas, the fun factor is way higher, and a gas engine with mount and fuel still weighs less than just a set of 12s batteries alone not counting a huge motor and esc.

thanks A rethink with this boat is on the cards!!

Derek,
The ideal setup based on todays available hardware is using a Castle XLX2 or X8S which are both 8S capable ESC's. Run a pair of 4S cells as a 8S1P. The capacity and size of the battery will depend on what you can fit. Motor options are plentiful, but shoot for something in the 800-1000kv range.

Assuming the tub is 5" wide on the inside there should be enough room to squeeze the batteries between the booms and mount the motor and ESC in the engine compartment. Usually for an FE rigger you need to move the power system rearward to keep the weight off the sponsons, so you might consider going with a lightweight setup assuming the stuffing tube is fixed which sets the motor position. here are a couple of options.

Lightweight:
Castle X8S hydra
TP4070 8D 1060kv, Tenshock 2260/5Y Evo 1050kv, Neu 1527 1.5Y 850kv
Roaringtop 70C 4400mAh pair of 4S1P batteries

More powerful:
Castle XLX2 Hydra
Lehner 2280 or 3040, TP 5660 or 5670, Tenshock 5380, Neu 2215 or 2220
RT or SMC 5000mAh to 6000mAh 8S1P

Cool factor:
Castle XLX2 Hydra
Lehner 4140 outrunner
RT or SMC 5000mAh to 6000mAh 8S1P

The Lehner outrunner is a really nice option as the motor is compact for it's power and can swing gas size props so it's one of the best conversion motors from a gas engine. They also sound very cool. I have a twin 8S electric rigger with a pair of the Lehner 4140 outrunners which is awfully quick.

thanks for info bare hull so no tube in yet, only poss issue is the area for tank has curved bottom so bit shallow, may have to jiggle if I go that route, thanks again
