I need some more sponson core foam. hard to get good foam these days. What are you guys using? Where can I get it?

thanks

Anthony, When I was building 21's I used the insulation foam found and home centers...3" thick with foil on both sides. fairly cheap and a 4x8 sheet goes a long way...you can glue it with CA or epoxy and it sands great.

BTW, your boat looks great!

this would be for sp40 sponsons,.. you think that would work? I was thinking of some harder foam like divinacell,.. but that is so expensive now and hard to get.. I don't think I have enough left to make a pair.

Going to have the cores cut to shape and then skin with ply..

After my divinycell is gone I'm going to try some spyder foam from acp composites. Guess it's stronger than regulate blue foam.

You can buy some smaller pieces of Divinycell from Aircraft Spruce. I also used the pink insulation foam from the box stores with good success by adding wood ribs between layers of foam.

I've been using 2" construction foam for years. I have found a life time supply by checking new home construction sites for pieces that have been tossed.

Now we know how the frog can afford to travel the country to race, he gets his materials for free ;)

The foam that Jerry and I use is plenty strong! My sport boats were always WOF...sponsons had no framework...just that construction foam covered with 1/32 ply. worked great. I ran a carbon rod through the center section framework, and epoxied it into the foam. Bob

Spyder foam is the lightest and strongest I have ever seen but get your pocket book ready. It's far from cheap. We are currently using Elliot foam in the JagIII's with good success.

Thanks guys. On the 2 in blue foam I'm worried bout tearing out the TF. I planned to laminate a 1/4in ply plate to the sponson heal and attach the the TF bracket. Do you think it would pull out of there. I've got lots of high end epoxy from Henkel. I fear it would tear off a chunk of foam. And we all know how hard it can be to get a good sport boat TF. Don't want it on the lake bottom.
