i cant seem to tighten my flywheel. when i tighten down on the flex coupler instead of binding with the flywheel it just starts to turn over the crank/engine so the flywheel just spins.

what gives?

How can I get this thing tight?

i think i got it figured out.... it seems the coupler's threads are messed up so that it gets tight before it starts to engage the flywheel....

what size threads are on a .21 anyways?

1/4"-28.

Is the coupler bottoming out on the threads before it touches the flywheel face?

i'm pretty sure thats whats happening.... but i dont think it's bottomed out on the threads..... more like the threads are messed up and it just stops a hair short.... that's why i could not figure it out cause it was just soooo close

cant use a washer.... darn rc car type crank..... not enough threads as it is. :p

sounds like time to dig out a 1/4 -28 die and tap.

Using a washer would be the easy option but it's cheating :p

Use a thinner washer. You could put one behind the flywheel instead of behind the coupler too. One other problem I've seen in cars is the split tapered collet seats too far inside the flywheel, and then the flywheel contacts the bearing before it fully compresses the collet.

i used a modifed OS RZM flywheel. I had to cut a tiny bit off cause the flex coupler bottomes out on the shaft before the flywheel.

well it turns out i had 2 problems..... both messed up threads and the pilot shaft would was just a tiny bit too long. I only cut off about 1/16" that little notch on the end where you'd put a c clip a suppose it is for.

other than that the extra shaft is not a prob..... short threads requires a custom flywheel.... that's the prob.
