Yes on the 2170. An H-50 would be an easy place to start. Will get to 100 mph with the larger pipe. I ran one up to 119mph on a Picco 80.

Something like an old small CMB 67 pipe or OPS 67 pipe set down to about 9" is what you'll need or you'll need to run props that are way too big for the boat. Modified 2170's will head on up to 130mph.

Thanks for the tip ,,I got a 2167 three blade plus a s40 three blade to try..
The S-40 three blade will run 100 right out of the bag. I made that prop from a 2176/3 back in 1994. Your V962/3 will be a good starting point to test your boat set up, but it won't load the engine enough, so don't lean the engine in an effort to develop RPM. It will get too lean and possibly damage parts.

OK thanks is my order nearly ready ?

No center ski just two rear sponsons if needed..

You'll need at least the left rear...
1997 - we built a 45 SG race boat with bolt on rears. When I decided to make SAW passes with the boat, I removed the rear sponsons. The strut was round bottom. No center sponson (ski).

The CMB 45 launched a 2160 cupped 6.0" with no problem and became the first boat in IMPBA to exceed 100 mph. The boat also never blew off.

I later installed a Picco 67 and 80. In 1998 the boat went on to exceed 119 mph @ Huntsville Ala. and @ Legg Lake in California.

While the SGX did adopt the center sponson, the newest SGX and X-2 are back to just two small rear sponsons and we have been experimenting, with good success, very shallow pads that are far above the water at speed.

About Andy Brown ~ Andy exceeded 126.3 mph @ Franklin , Va. in 2001, 15 years ago! Far exceeding the Speeds of any IMPBA or NAMBA member at that time.

Six months later Andy also exceeded 125 mph @ Legg Lake, Calif. in 2002 with the same boat...just in case there were any doubts.

P.S. David, Your parts will ship out tomorrow. Thanks!

I find getting turned around very hard with no ski/rears...
Very true! On the FE SAW riggers no ski or shoe but we don't have a problem getting up on plane. And of course we can stop and turn at our leisure.

On the 80 SAW boat I run a single ski, but no turn fin/razor just sharp sponson edges.

David,

Many years ago I ran 107 mph at an IMPBA SAW record trial with a hummingbird just like yours using a 2170. Just to let you know you will be able to do it with that boat.
