So who was responsible for the first successful r/c racing outrigger? I'm familiar with some of the older designs of the 70's, but was wondering what boat made modelers transition from three points to riggers.

Yup, I agree with Doc, but would add Mike Millbush was on his heels at the 72 Internats in Flint. Mike stuff woke up the world to out rigger performance. It was a year later when Don made a pilgrimage north to Flint to run the record trials and hit the rock on shore doring what those of us present would call the first 80 mph pass.

Thanks John

Doc you are getting old.

Met Don in 2012 at Hobart, cool guy to chat with.

Don't forget the "Ground Effects Machine"

Steve Ball

Where in the history line was the Coyote?

Wasn't it before the gator?
. No, the Coyote came after the Gator. He had 2 versions of the Gator, then built the Coyote. Then, in 1987 he built the Coyote Daytona .
. Yes, the Gator was built with wood booms and then aluminum booms, then the ground effects which I consider the second Gator. It was a Gator without rear sponsons, a ride plate at the transom with small undermounted rears.
