I just ordered a FireFighter .12. I am going to use a Traxxas 2.5 motor. I am new to building boats, so I have no idea what prop, motormount, or running hardware

to use. Any suggestions? - budguy

Hey BudGuy!

for the motor mount i recommend a Octura 3-30

Propeller: good ones to try are the prather 215 and Octura V937

Running hardware..... that's a bit more tricky.... I really need to nail this down but it is Nearly impossible to have a neat solution..... easy way might be to call Gary Preusse as he will have everything you need YO RON O..... WHATS THE PHONE NUMBER?????

let me try.....

from: http://drcwebservices.com/ffe/hardware.htm Fullers Fast electric

get this strut:

12 - 32 cell super strut - 1 7/8" length strut: $23.00

(bracket not included)

with the post rudder:

Fullers original rudder assembly, post style with water pickup wedge rudder: $26.99

and get a .125 shaft .187 stub 18" long hughey flex cable

that should do the trick..... or you could get the hardware from speedmaster like i did but it is overkill on the size.

hope that helped!

I should put his number on speed dial! 630-279-2451. I need to ask him about the Hughey hardware the next time that I call him. It's supposed to be lighter and cheaper than the Octura pieces.

I'll have to try to put together a parts list of the stuff that I have used on the HH .12 and the WT .12 .

I took my Octura catalog to work today and dug up some part numbers.

OC4WR- short rudder

OC4WRMC- long rudder

OC4STR- long strut bracket for those who like to like to hang things way out back. Can be used for strut or rudder.

OC4BBR- short strut bracket for keeping it close to home.

OC4OFF- the offset bracket for mounting the rudder to the left ot right of the prop.

Hughey PN B2166- .125" flex cable to 3/16" shaft 18" length.

The Octura parts mostly can be ordered in Aluminum or Beryllium Copper so specify.

There are package deals on most of these but some include a flex cable and shaft that you'd have to solder together or toss. Gary can special order parts with a mixture of Aluminum and Be Cu for lightest weight but still have strength.

A word of warning on the rudders. The short one has the arm on the right side so I cut it off and mounted a nylon control arm for a 1/2 A plane on it. The longer one has the arm on both sides so one can be removed.
