Just talked to Jeff Stevens and he told me that Chris Fines of http://www.finedesignrc.com said that Batavia is not a true event without being NAMBA Sanctioned, it's just grass roots.

The Chicago area race has been around since the mid 80's. I first read about fast electrics in RCBM. Yes, you can call it Grass Roots, in fact you can call it the beginning of fast electric racing.

Batavia was once in the IMPBA but felt that it offered no real value for racers since they could obtain Insurance for the event. Many that raced there only raced at this event and the IMPBA membership fees offered no value. Not joining NAMBA is in the same reasoning.

Chris Fines not supporting Batavia?

This is just another good example of what I have thought all along, certain vendors try to control racers with rules created around products they sell. No NAMBA sanction, no support. Just say no Chris, don't slam the event that many of us have supported for years and years.

You can be certain that I won't suggest Fine Design to anyone in the future.

Hi Steve,Politics sucks I agree. But I think this post is in poor taste. Were is it stated that a retailer has to sponsor anything. If some one doesnt sponsor an event should he really be publicly ridiculed for it.

Yes it is true.I grew up in FE reading about the Batavia race and it was a well produced venue when I raced there myself.

The only reason that I joined NAMBA and kind of stuck with it was because I became acustomed to those classes and it is the most active FE sanctioning body.

I think it is a sad thing that folks have decided to split up one of the most active FE areas (the great lakes region) simply based on what classes they run.

We are just not big enough to have these kind of problems.

It is really my hope to one day see Jeff and the guys come race with us at Michigan Cup.Regardless of what flag we fly we all of this great hobby in common.

Steve I dont think you and I have ever had words.Your a good guy and have always done right by me and if someone jumped up here and nuked you for this same reason I would say the same thing to them.

I am hoping to make Batavia this year its just been too long and I always like meeting new boaters. In fact I dont think I have ever met you face to face.Hope to change that too.Be easy my friend it just a hobby !

Dennis,

I am glad that you have responsed. You have the right to think that. Too bad MI never called us for help this year, we would have offered like we did last year. I guess you can get it down to 1 or 2 selected vendors of choice that support only santioned events.

reagrds,

Steve

Sorry Steve that was my fault.I was in charge of sponsorship last year.I realy thought based on my last conversation that you were turning more towards robotics than FE.My bad.Your sponsorship would have been greatly apreciated and well recieved I am sure.May I contact you next year on this ?

Steve

would it not have been fairer to list all the boating vendors who did not support Batavia?

Is singling out only one of the many hobby shops and traders that didnt support fair? Especially as Chris gave a reason.

Andrew,

I made my statement...I am finished.

Hi, outsider looking in again. As Dennis knows, I've only been to 1 FE race and that was in Lansing last year. I've seen coverage of the Batavia race before in RCBM and it did appear that they have a good showing of people. I met Chris last year also at the MI Cup race and he was talking to me like we'd known each other for years. It's his money so he should decide where to spend it. At least he was up front with you, maybe too honest.

Come on Steve, there has to be a line between expressing your opinion on a public forum and airing your dirty laundry.

Now it seems there is a new incentive to sponsor races. If you choose not to.......

Class act.

Nah, it's easy Dick....

Just say no, we are commited to other races and sponsorship budget is planned.

Not, nah, your not a club, have no insurance and your not santioned.

This is all bogus crap.

Batavia has a club, and has insurance. It's club members that do not travel and do not have to pay the NAMBA yearly fees to race and Batavia. If Jeff and club chose to go NAMBA and not use the optional insurance that he has, my guess is that this club would desolve. They use to be IMPBA and voted to go independent.

thanks

Steve

I think what Jeff is doing is great for his area. It sounds like he is doing exactally what he needs to in order to foster the growth in his club.

That doesn't change the fact that a post on this public forum about Chris's desire to only support only NAMBA events turn in to a shame on you thread.

Have you ever not sponsored a race because it was a NAMBA event? Before you answer, remember, I've been around a long time and have a good memory. Now be nice and a little less hypocrytic.

Lets get back to boat racing and batteries.

Dick,

Yes, I have in the past refused to sponsor NAMBA races. I think you know the reason as well. Since the breakup of the total control by certian parties, we started helping. I don't see Ray on Bataiva's list, my guess is Ray chose not to help Batavia. My guess is that Ray did not insult Jeff. Get the point Dick?

Seems like there are two sides to your coin Steve and they are both heads. I guess mine is both Tails. So what's new right?

I haven't a clue if Ray was or wasn't contacted. I personally think that you made some bad decisions by backing out NAMBA race sponsorships, but they were your decisions made for your own reasons. Chris made his decisions based on his reasons. You just don't like it and are having a little tissy fit on this forum because if it, but thats alwasy been par for the course for you.

I should just take this thread like so many others with a grain of salt but it's just been too darn long since you and I have gone at it. Maybe I'm just going through withdrawls. I forgot how fun this can be!

I'm off to the Lipoly thread, I've got a few questions.

Since I don't make decisions based on how much money or free stuff I get, I post what I think and not political stuff based on what effects me or my business. I am not having a tissy fit, I think electric boat racers need to know different sides of equations.

Some things never change Dick.

Have fun with LiPoly....I'll look for some NAMBA rule that bans everything not supplied by some NAMBA vendor.

The Batavia club (the key word here is CLUB) seems to be quite content operating as it does... If some dude calls it Grass Roots.. COOL.. maybe more clubs should be grass roots..

I like this one:

Steven Hill says: Just talked to Jeff Stevens and he told me that Chris Fines of http://www.finedesignrc.com said that Batavia is not a true event without being NAMBA Sanctioned, it's just grass roots.

Where is the justice.. o the humanity.. Grass Roots… no not that…lol :D

Another good one:

What you thought.... hum.. Worth what?.. You have a right to this statement.. However when said with taste it has a lot more pull and therefore the respect of many more. <_<

Life is just to dam short for this kind of stuff...

Then again some of us do need to read this to recall why it is that we do what we do.. Its not to bake and boil others and live with the stresses thereof, but rather to have a good time meeting new freinds and old freinds racing our boats.

Steven, if you like living this way so be it, this is your right and we respect it…. For me its good eating, exercise and friends that believe it or not, make boating better.. might want to give it a try.. it realy works.. ;)

Submitted with all respect.

I suppose that qualifies me to make a statement like - At least I don't make decisions with my dirty shorts on my head.

You can create whatever fairy tail you like Steve. Always have, always will I guess. Let the conspirosy roll on. Everyone is out to get you! Must be those shorts.

Guess I'll have to see if Chris wants to sponsor me so I can live up to your end of this little story.

If NAMBA does ban Lipolys I'll have to cruise over the Batavia. Always wanted to drop by. Got an extra pair of shorts?
