finding my old chevy have vin number

I have located the VIN number from an old chevy i had in the late 70's. What is the BEST way to carry this on? Carfax and the rest are terrible and charge too much money.Thanks.

Well the state actually told me the car is not titled or registered in Illinois at this time. I assume it's been sold out of state??
