I am a newbie to FE ( on my first build, VS1 ). I have a few questions;

1) Does it really matter if the servo is up front or in the rear of the box?

2) Can I run my water cooling lines for the ESC with the motor wires into the box, or is it better to keep them separate?

Thanks

TL

Tim,

We have been using 5 short one inch pieces of K&S brass tube (5/16-11/32-3/8) and running wires and water lines through them. Seal with shrink wrap and you can easily change out ESC's. I would recomend making the box as long as the hull will take and steering servo forward, leaving space inbetween for moving batteries. I like the ESC at the rear close to the motor for shorter wires and high enough that batteries can slide under. This lets you use battery weight to balance with say foam spacers behind and in front with different lenghts.

Tim, I've built two VS-1's. I prefer the servo & speedy in back to keep the play in the linkages to a minimum. Gives room in front to shift battery fore/aft for cg adjusting. It's really tight in back doing it this way, but patience helps. ( Notice I moved the motor mount forward with a false transom to keep the outdrive pivot forward of the rear sponson tips ; Mike Z suggested this but I wouldn't bother-not sure it was worth the effort) . BTW this was an early build with the original AQ speedy; the later ones were smaller & easier to fit in.

those look like AQ's antenna mounts, from the TS 2. not 100% sure they're still called that by AQ, but they are still available, i use them as an antenna mount on a lot of builds. i think i still have some in the package, if so, i'll post the part #, tim.

Here's my son's boat with the cables and the servo mounted in the front. ESC goes on the little shelf in the rear and battery right behind the servo.

Tim, they're Dubro pushrod seals that I trimmed some. What with the way I go through speedys & such, you can pull through the wires (with a little lube on them) when switching out speedys.

Pictured is another wire exit configuration I'm using on my Herb Stewart tunnel. Same deal, removing the shrink allows the wires with bullets attached to be pulled through. More work than the single larger tube sealed with silicone I'll admit.

Got a T-180 stuffed in the box for P-Sport motors - used 90 deg water fittings to allow it to fit in the narrow confines of the box.

What size are the brass tubes you put the dubro seals on?

Thank you
