Being a codger I do not have a facebook account or do any of the social media stuff, I dont follow anyone, dont tweet or share pictures etc., What exactly am I missing and should I just sign up? I have heard that a facebook page is more effective for a clubs races than a traditional website. Opinions ?? Tony J

Facebook is a great tool.

It opens up a whole different world to what is on most forums.

It's a great way to keep up with what everyone is having for dinner and who they are voting for! LOL

Same here Ray, I have no need for it whatsoever.......as far as finding trouble, you can find that any where, any time.

You only find trouble if you look for it on face book. There is so much out there that is being done around the world.

You would be amazed at what others are doing in the world of RC boating.

Open you horizons beyond what is just posted on forums...................................

Have found countless info and parts on facebook pages that will never be posted on a forum.

Then again you can stick your head in the sand and only see what you want................................................

No Facebook here and never will be. Just one more way for government to keep there thumb on me. Ya ya we r in here and I get that

Don't need it TOOL or not

People won't admit to it but it tends to consume people and there time just BEING NOSEY and wanting to know who is up to what

That is my personal take

FYI if you want to know what I'm doing call me on the telephone after all that's what it was invented for just saying

Proved my point Dave. If I say I don't need it, according to you I'm sticking my head in the sand.

I had a Facebook account for two whole days. Once I realized everyone I was connected with who I cared about was someone I could get hold of a number of other ways, and the rest of them were just filling up my news feed with glurge, I dumped it. No, I don't care why you think meat is murder. No, Obama is not going to round up your kids and put them in labor camps. No, Kim Jong-Un is not building a mecha suit to wade across the pacific and invade. Think for five seconds about things before you post them.

These are my thoughts and no offense is meant toward anyone. VERY MUCH of what is posted or printed is not fact. If you take offense to this then you are probably one of the guilty parties. The BS filters that are needed just to wade through all of this crap out there just takes too much of my time and effort. I have better ways of wasting my time....like playing with toy boats.

Social Media of that form is what you make it . For me personally its one of the only ways to keep an eye on my daughter who is six states away , they dont always share everything on the phone.

Church functions, racing friends that dont come here , work ect. are some others.

Just like any forum /social media, its really simple to use it the wrong way as well. I for one refused to have an account for years , Had I not had one - I may have never reunited and married the best woman I have ever met

I have found friends I have not seen in 20 years on face book. If you don't friend some one you don't get any feeds on your page from them. Very easy to control who and what you see on your page.

Our club has a page Orlando Culvert Dodgers..........lots of picks of the club sight. Very cool stuff and it dose bring in new members........................................

Check out are page and see what it is all about " Orlando Culvert Dodgers RC Boat Club"

Sorry can not post a link on IW..........................

I didnt have facebook for a long time didnt think i needed it was out with friends left the table came back friends wife set me up on facebook i love it

Facebook has been great for building our hobby club.. remember the real key is chose your friends wisely. If you are REALLY not "Friends" with them then OK.. no body is going to hammer you for that.

you will find people are just Friends collectors.. lots of political garbage on there too.. but its easy to weed though.

I love it.. great tool for friends and family.

A few weeks back New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, while forced to respond to a question at a press conference (in regards to some social media, tabloid, drama related to a player), referred to Facebook as "Insta-Face"
