I'm shopping around for a 1/4 scale steering servo for my F-mono. Futaba's S5301 and the HS-805MG would surely do the job, but Futaba has a cheaper option; the S3306, but with nylon gears. I usually stay away from nylon gears. Are they more durable in a large scale servo? Anyone have personal experience with the S3306? Or should I stick with my gut feeling and go with a metal gear servo?

Thanks.

3306.................is CRAP. Have two that I will give you!!!

IF you want to RAIL!!! 5755 HiTech...... That will be my next one. And I have 5301's now.

Ran a 5745 Hitech.....That was money also. ;) ;) B)

I'd take the 3306"s , they work just fine in smaller stuff ,

You know where to ship em to

Im using in my Seaducer a Futaba S5301. Its working great without problem....Its a good option.

Don`t be cheap when it comes to radio gear.

You spend 1000 of dollar on a boat and you save 10 bucks on a servo..........

Get good radio gear.

Futaba S9157...Tons of TORQUE, metal gears, in a smaller package.

I agree with you Buckshot the 9157 and 9156. These servos are standard size with all metal gears and more torque than any 1/4 scale available servo. No need for heavy 1/4 scale servos anymore.

Do you guys think the fact that a digital servo has more center holding power is helpful for boats??

Thanks.

I bought a Hitec HS 5755-MG from my LHS, and I have to say that is a big friggin servo! I guess it won't matter too much with a big f-mono, but I can see why some people pay a little more for the 300 oz/in standard size servos.

One thing that I noticed in the Seaducer 90/100 instructions. "(Note the newer model steering servo "Little HiTeck Ultra Torque Servo" was race-tested and has a design characteristic, which is not compatible with the Seaducer boat.)" Not sure what that means, but it sounds like some of the std. ultra torque servos don't work to well even though they are rated with suffucient torque. Sounds like 1/4 scale servos are the safe way to go.

This may be off base. But why a 1l4 scale servo? I've been running an Hitec MG 645 in my 60/80 seaducer with a MAC 84 for 4 years and never had a problem with it! Am I just lucky?

I think you have been lucky. Not much torque on that servo; 134 in/oz. at 6v.
