I'm looking for an electric mono and hydro that won't break the bank. At this point I just want the hulls and I'll make my own hardware. When I finish the hardware, then I'll look into motors, batteries, speed controls and whatever else is needed. I have a bunch of radios on the shelf now.

I checked out Insane boats, but he wants too much and he won't deal on the price.

I'm not sure if I want to race them or not, but I would like them just to fool around with. My first love is gas boats, but I went to a weekend spot last week that only allows electric boats or sail boats.

No one can give you any advice unless you tell us the size and voltage you want to run. Do you want a 29" mono or a 45" mono? A 30" hydro or a 53" hydro? Do you want to run 2S, 4S, 10S? How much do you want to spend for the hull, $50, $100, $150? Jeff sells every hull he molds, why should he "deal" with someone he doesn't even know? Throw us a crumb.

In the 30'ish inch range the 33" Delta Force Cyberstorm is probably the best bang for the buck for about $140 on www.offshoreelectrics.com . It will also make a decent heat racer in the P-Mono class should you ever decide to race it. For hydros in the same size class, pickings are slim. Especially if you want to go cheap. I know Jeff is expensive but he builds a nice boat and the FE30 Sport Hydro w/hardware is IMO one of the easiest FE boats you can put together. The boat handles great and looks good. But for a budget build, building a wood kit would be your best bet. For a sport hydro, a 20 Whiplash or a Mike Luszcz boat would be a good choice. If you like riggers there are a few kits available but the JAE FE from Zippkits is the way to go. Probably one of the best FE's values available as far as MPH/$. It's another good choice in the P-Limited Hydro class should you ever decide to race FE's.

I would start with the P limited class. That way the power plant cost is controlled since you don't need the most expensive speed controls and batteries. There are a lot of mono choices. I second the Zipkits JAE electric rigger. It has been very competitive in our area. That rigger class provides great racing with boats that can handle rough conditions and still run 60 mph. A prebuilt kit costs $169.

I'd like something like the Insane FE30 hydro and the FE34 mono. I can make my own running gear and worry about everything else later.

Steve,

Go with the either the DeltaForce Cyber Storm or a Aeromarine 33" Titan for the mono, both work well and don't break the bank. Glass work on the DF is the best of the pile. If you want a glass hydro, I'd build a Phil Thomas Stealth like Tyler and Jim are running down there. A little more money and a bit more work to finish, but a very good running boat when done.

I would go with the 33" Delta Force Cyberstorm. I have the DF 33" mono and it runs great. I use a Castle Creations 1515-1Y on 4s2p for power

with a Sea King 180A esc. good combo and won't bust the wallet.

Chilli knows the boat. :)

Another affordable hull to consider that is similar to the hulls mentioned by others above is the Pursuit. It is very similar to the DF Cyberstorm: It can be found at http://kintecracing.com/

Agree. You basically have here the "core" set of hydro's that race. I have owned everyone of these except the small whip which I am sure is vey good given that the bigger ones are awesome. Pick any of these and you can win. The "easiest" I have had to set up and run is the Insane FE. I bought one when they first came out and I think I am on my third racing season with the boat in pLSH. The boat is very tough and if you buy the hardware kit it is very easy to put together.
