Hey all... Only for FYI: We had our E-Bay Id stolen last week.. :-[ After reading the auto-notice that our password then ID was changed, I email'd E-Bay about the problem. The person(s) who took my Id had it long enough to post out 4 bids. E-Bay quickly fixed everything back. Took less then 10 mins to fix. :)

Beware, change your passwords often... You won't have to go thru the mess I did. ;D

Mark...

The other thing to make sure to do anytime you receive e-mail from "ebay" is check the header descriptions thourghly. Usely you can see who the fraudulant senders are. Usually comes from a Yahoo site etc...Never fill those forms out asking for the simplest things! Like your password.

glad to hear that they fixed everything for you.... as a fellow earthlink.net user, watch out lately there has been a group from eartlink.COM trying to get CC #'s by sending account susspension/expired e-mails.

the best passwords are made using radom alpha numeric generators!

Also, when making your password...don't use a word that can be found in the dictionary. That's one of the first things a hacker program tries.

I got an email supposedly from ebay a few days ago asking me to update my info...asked for things like password, SSN, DL #, mother's maiden name, credit card info, etc.

I opened a new window, and went to ebay's homepage and asked them about it...you guessed it, fraud!

Check the 'properties' really well on any email from ebay. The one I got had unencrypted links, and info like 'date created' was unknown.

PJ,

We had the same mail as you stated.. Did the same, looked at E-Bay and there were posting that it was junk... Mail was trashed quickly..

Last week while I was at work, tried to get into E-Bay. Kept coming back with incorrect password. BS is what I had to say. Later, Mary sent me a memo stating we did get a memo from e-bay, but didn't know what it really meant. The auto-notice from E-Bay was that our password was changed. We also received another mail stating our primary email was changed.. This is where I took notice because the new ID was unknown to Mary or myself. E-Bay was quick to get it our account changed back, backed out the unwarrented bids and sent emails to the sellers explaining what occurred.

Just giving everyone a heads-up to make sure you change your passwords on a regular basis. At work, I have too many ID's to remember and have to change pw's every 30 days.. It gets old real quick..

OB Nut Racing: What's my password? : :)

Thanks Mark for the heads up.

Its a PAIN IN THE A$$ When that $hit happens.

I know theres always going to be hackers out there. but its more of a pain to contact and make the changes.

I wish the hackers would just stick to the BIG companys and leave us little guys alone.

am glad to hear it got all streightened out, now do they BID with your name and stuff there so you in turn get the bad name on ebay or what is the point of all this?

I Just checked and mine is ok, course having been on ebay in a few months.

NT,

Not really certain what the deal with hackers on e-Bay is all about. Can only guess that since e-Bay has now gone to USER ID instead of Email-ID, it goes against your USER ID.. They bid, don't pay, my ID gets a NEG response... Sorry, but Mary and I have 100% Pos feedback.. I want to keep it that way!

The way I see it, my word is my honor.. If my word is not good enough, then my honor is no good either... I'm old school.. If I say I'm going to do something, then I'm going to do it... Ain't going to BS ya.. ;)

OB Nut Racing: Fool me once, shame on you.. Fool me twice, shame on me :(

ok ok i get the point of hacking into some major corporation... just to see if you can do it... that i kinda understand... or even aol to get credit card ##'s because your a DF and want to commit a fedral crime, but to hack into an e-bay acct and place bids totally befuddles me... i mean whats the point, it's not like you'll get anything but destory my rating (like i have one) why not just hack through my firewall and plant a virus or something, at least then i might say they accomplished something (really pissing me off that is)

-whadda ya mean hunter killer scirpts are illeagle, shouldn't it be illeagle to hack in the first place?-

It's sounds like we all ought to check "My eBay" to see if somebody else got your password and are bidding on some weird stuff for you. It should show up in there if you got hacked.

Wet Paint Racing, no I didn't bid on the pink ruffled panties!
