Thought I'd share this 54" Dumas scarab that a friend had sitting in his garage for years and gave to me. I stripped it down and built a new deck for it and added all new hardware. I built it to match the KAAMA scarab race boat from the 70's that Betty Cook drove. It has the original OPS 90 in it.

Good job finishing the Scarab. How about some running shots? I have the same hull sitting in the basement. Can not decide whether to put a Picco 90 or a Zenoah in it. Did you set it up to run surface drive or sub-surface? Can you upload some photos of the hardware?

Thanks,

kez

I set it up with 1/4" surface drive hardware so I would have the option to go to gas if I wanted to in the future. I don't have any running shots yet but have a first test run video before paint.

The boat is running 50-52mph but still not set up with the right prop / pipe yet.

Very nice! What props have you tried so far? Also, did you use the 3/8" rails supplied by Dumas? I think it is kind of overkill to use 3/8" ply for the rails. I am thinking of using 1/4" to save some weight.

Great job ! I too have the same boat sitting on a shelf partially rigged , gonna set it up with a Zenoah 28 cc engine and similar hardware one of these days ! Looks great . :)

Thanks Tom, I'm still messing around with pipe and header setup, trying to keep it inside the hull. I used a silver bullet .67 outboard pipe with a 'U' header and have seen 52 mph with the old ops 90 but I sold the pipe with my outboard and now I'm looking for something else to try. Buy the way I know you from S&F, I have the twin 22 talon.
