Did anyone manage to test the data logger that we talked about a month or 2 ago. Someone on here was testing one, I can't remember who.

That would be Lohring that's working with one

I just ran my 3.5 Leecraft with the Eagle Tree data logger several times last week. Tha data is excellent with the exception of the air speed. I think it is a vibration problem and plan to retest the setup this Thursday with the data logger wrapped in foam. So far I learned that my air cooled Rossi is running at lower rpm and much lower cylinder head temperature than I expected. I did some head fin trimming and reset the squish clearance for the retest. Below is a picture of the basic installation. The data logger is in the cockpit and is connected to the tach and temperature sensors on the engine as well as the receiver in the radio box.

Below is another picture of the engine with the tach pickup on the end of a carbon fiber angle and the cylinder temperature sensor wrapped below the head,

How accurate do you think it is because of the extra weight that it adds? Are you using it to your advantage or not?

I am also wondering "how much it weights"

The unit is very light and makes no noticable difference in the balance of the boat. I'm not yet using the exhaust gas temperature thermocouple, but I plan to test it, especially on a gasoline engine. I plan to log the third chanel mixture servo position and look at the temperature versus mixture setting. Right now rpm and temperature along with the radar gun speed tells me a lot about engine performance. When we get the onboard speed working well, it will be even better.

I'm gearing up to check it out as well. Will post what we find. It's currently listed on their website for $159.99.

Based on my first test results, I took lots of the fin area off the head and dropped the squish clearance down. I also wrapped the recorder board in foam. The rpm and temperature data were as good as ever, and the air speed readings were finally reasonable but with lots of scatter. I picked up 1000 rpm with the modifications. Time for even more head work.

Lohring,

Is it possible to take data from 2 engines on the one boat like on a twin?

It would be easiest with two recorders. The recorder does have two temperature inputs, but only one rpm input. The recorders turn on and off with the boat radio and I believe the time stamp in the recorders is quite accurate so syncronization between the recorders shouldn't be a problem.

Below is a picture of the Eagle Tree data logger on my 7.5 Leecraft. It is a much simpler setup than the 3.5 boat. I am only measuring head temperature, rpm, throttle, and mixture position.
