I've bought a used CMB RS-91 and will be using it in my own designed rigger. So far i've only used normal type plugs but this one has turbo plugs. What are good plugs to use in this engine?

Tnx,

Tnx,
Paul, I use Odonnell 299T in mine. It's the best one I have tried.

I do not understand why U would want to use "turbo plugs" as opposed to a standard plug, especially on a RS 91 engine, my advice, order a standard plug head and save a lot of $$$$.JM2CW

There is a savings on the plug cost.................but there is a difference in how the motor runs also.............

Turbo Plugs work better in some applications.

Could be, However I cannot remember any boater in the few years I have been racing, north, south, east west at hundreds and hundreds of racing a boater claiming that he won 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place because he was using a $8.00 to $14.00 cone lock plug, as opposed to a standard, $2.00 to $5.00 standard plug.JM2CW

And the simple fact of the matter is when in Rome do as the Romans do. Here in the U.S. in our version of marine R/C we do not use the cone luck plug as our standard plug. In EURO and the rest of the world they do. And 1st,2nd,and 3rd has been the norm everywhere else. Kind of why the world is metric and We are still ft and in. ;)

why not go back to rope starting you engines. Rope is much cheaper than a starter. For the record I pay much less than $8.00 a plug for turbos. They are about 15% more expensive but seem to last twice as long. Do the maths on that and they end up good value
Greg i have not purchased any glow plugs in like almost 2 1/2 years. I use OD89 on All 101RS and 91 RS i have yet to take a plug ;-)

Thanks for the input guys. Julian, is the OD89 a normal or turbo plug? Dave, did you mean 99T can't find any info on a 299T.

What is the best place to get these plugs?

Paul,

The 99T is finished, the 299T is the replacement. It has the body modified to improve the taper seal and shorter hexagon part at the top. (sometimes with the 99T the hexagon would bottom out and stop the plug sealing correctly to the head).

Julian thats great. So if your plugs are lasting so long. Would you be afraid to pay a little extra for a little more performance ?
Greg with the set up I have right now it's running extremely well with OD89 and MC9 I don't see me paying for turbo plugs which cost a lot and that also means I have to change my head buttons too.

I have 10 CMB Big blocks I don't see the reason to make that change when its not going to be a drastic change in performance.

Or Julian, is it because you don't push them hard enough :) ?
Kris when I test my boats I test them like I race them. I push them hard but at the same time I'm not going to tear my equipment apart during a heat race. Now I have pushed my Twin hydros to the limit during record trials and have destroyed 3 engines and 2 Twins but that's only during record trials different type of set up. Anyone that has raced me in Twin hydro , mono, tunnel ect can tell you I race hard and leave nothing on the table ;-)

Turbo tops have a bigger head volume than a standard top.

So you will move the power band up to a higher rpm.. I have not seen an increase in peak hp..

The difference is quite big, so if you run a turbo top you may have to change your propp and pipe length.

Simen; Can you explain how the turbo plugs have more head volume than the standard plug. J.

Jack,

I think Simen is saying that the turbo head has more volume than the standard plug head.

I was wondering the same thing?

Simen, have U actually measured the total volume of a "Tubo top glow plug", vs A "Standard top glow plug? Thanks
