Mother Nature threw us a major monkey wrench with a high pressure system off the coast and a low pressure system coming in from the west. Put us in the middle when the systems fought it out. Rain on Friday and Saturday with light to heavy showers and Sunday with light to moderate showers and wind added. However, the racing was exceptional during all of the weather trials.

The CMB Club wishes to thank all that attended this year's race. Even though the weather was testy the competition was outstanding. We tried to serve a lot of the renowned southern hospitality for all that came and all were made to feel welcome. The 2009 Charleston Fall Nationals will start racing on Friday, either at 8 am or 12 noon, to ensure we have some flexibility in the schedule. Adjustments on the number of classes will also be made.

The race would never been possible without our many sponsors and supporters and are:

15 Trophies were won by members of the Charleston Model Boaters club alone. We also did quite well.

Agree completely. The FLA gang always do quite well at our races, including those from southern FLA. The VA group also did very well too. The distribution of trophies were well dispursed among many racers and most came away with at least 1. Some had cruddy luck and did not get one but others did well and that happens at every race. But the best thing is we had a very good time in spite of the wet weather and that is more important than any trophy we can ever get.

Yup, that's what it's all about. Thanks for all the hard work from you and the entire Charleston club. I had a great time. I ran less classes than normal, only 3, which freed up time for me to help others. It was great to be able to give some time back to others. It was also great to finally be able to meet some of the people I've communicated with here, but hadn't had the chance to actually talk to.

Sadly, the season for me has ended. It's time to put the boats into winter storage and begin planning what I'll run next year. Looking forward to seeing people next year...

Wow!! What a trip. We got to Doc's house in Birmingham, AL about 12:30am CT. I got home to Decatur, AL about 2:45am CT. Sorry guys for leaving so soon before the trophies were handed out but we did have a lot of miles to cover.

We had a great time in Charleston. The club did a great job considering the weather and how the race grew into such a huge event. I am sure that it tryed to over power them but they came out ok in my book.

It was good to see and meet all of the racers that we do not get to see or race with and all of the other racers that we don't see often.

And Scott I got rid of the that ------ mono you will be happy to know. LOL

Great job and thanks for putting on good race. Hope to see ya next year.

Chuck:

You should be happy to put the boats away and have some building time and some thinking time. That is about the only thing I don't like about living in Florida. WE RACE TOO MUCH !!!! A race every month and no time to build.

I think that I will take off a FALSE WINTER for the next 2 or 3 months so that I can get something new done. :)

The VA group also did very well too........
Yup, 19 pieces of hardware went back to Virginia, not too shabby at all. :)

Even though mother nature did her best to throw us that low curve ball we still had a blast! I got to hang with those who I normally get to see only once a year @ Atlanta like Joe, Ralph, Will, Big Chuck, Mark & Doc (you'd swear those two were married the way they carry on sometimes  ), Jose', Graham & others. Was good to see and talk with Marty Davis again, been about 9 years since we were face to face and he still looks the same (I mean that in a good way Marty ;) ) Got to meet some new people & put faces to names of those that I'd known up to that point only on-line. And a HUGE thank you to Anthony Black for having us hang with him, a super guy with two sons Josh & Alex, who are already well on their way to being serious hot shoe hydro racers. :D

Racing was definitely hot & heavy in all the classes, wish my luck was better with the twin but the perfect score in 40 hydro kinda made up for that. I'm still exhausted but it was worth every minute and made the long ride home a little more tolerable. The Charleston Model Boaters busted their tails to put on a good show & they sure did even with over three days of rain & wind. At the last IMPBA board meeting it was voted to have this year be the trial run for the "National level fall event" & they did the organization right. I will, without any reservation, back them 100% as I'm sure will others who attended. As far as I'm concerned the Charleston Fall Nationals is now on the IMPBA map & an event to be attended.

Great job guys, see you there next fall for sure. B)

Thanks to the Charleston club for hosting the event. Thank You Mark Poole & John Knight, Brian Callahan for all of you efforts keeping up with the entire event. We do appreciate it & the race was the quality of the Dist 13 events. Great lake & setting! Plenty of Parking! Great food to be had all around the lake site in the evenings. I got to see many of the Fl boaters that we don`t boat with much. Great Group of HARDCORE boaters those FL boys are..... Maybe I can retire down there one day? After crossing 4 states & running 1700 miles round trip. I was glad to return back to TENNESSEE.....

Too much racing? Wow, I never thought I'd hear that. I guess you're right, it will be good to have a chance to do an inventory, rework some of the existing boats, and build a few new ones (Nitro Conquest, 78 Circus Circus, and ?). It's also family time, my extended kitchen pass (4.5 months) expires at 10:45 tonight. Yay, the girls will be home finally.

I would like to say thank you to the Charleston club for hosting the fall race. It was a great race. I had lots of fun. The site if spectacular. I hope you guys are thingking about holding the INTERNATS there one year.

Thanks Guys

Doc wanted to save it for a spare boat. I am going back and running another class of Hydro. I never did do well with mono's twenty years ago. Never won a trophy with a mono. Always had the same problem. More motor than the boat can take. But there was no doubt that the boat is fast. What was it, last to first place down the backside of the lake.

Just got in a while ago, dog and cats just finished mauling me  Ditto, what the guys already posted. A special thanks to the Black family for making this Yankee feel right at home. ;) ;) Oh, one more thing, never had so much fun and laughs at a raffle drawing, then I did with that roudy bunch the pitted way down on the right. Thanks Randy C for the prop. Great, great time. God Bless you all. Ray

Was nice to finally put faces to the people I have conversed with here in I.W.

Ray Sametz, John Finch, Dick Tyndall, nice to meet you guys

Charles (big chuck) nice to see you again.

Oh Yeh, you too Don, See, I can be nice, no other references needed.

Really though Don, thanks for putting your scale back together, and putting it back in the water to make the final round, a race.

Wished we could have had some deck ta deck racing, but oh well, maybe next time!!!!

Chris (my wife) is already talking about plans for Atlanta.

Man, ya gotta love the lady

John & the Charleston crew, thanks for the opportunity to come up to your facility and race, nice site.

With the exception of the weaather, had a good time, great food around the lake site

Rick

I don't think I ever came home from a race where it rained every day and the wind blew constantly and said I had a GREAT weekend! It was nice to see some old friends and to put some faces with others that you have conversed with on the phone or the computer. I can honestly say that it was nice to smell nitromethane again. The front canopy in our pit area was facing the lake with all of our chairs under it and we would relax a bit between heats. One time when most of us were sitting there someone walked by and said it looked like "the old folks home". Lots of experience, my friend. LOTS of experience.

A big thanks to Anthony Black and his two sons, Alex and Josh for putting up with Don, Ray and I. Their hospitality and kindness made us feel most welcome during our stay.

A bigger thanks goes out to John Knight and the Charleston Model Boaters. What a great race they put together! This one is on the map for good, now. They have a great site for racing. What amazed me was as bad as the wind got sometimes it would not mess the water up that bad. Make sure you put this one on your list of races to go to next year..............you won't want to miss it!

It was nice to see Marty Davis again and catch up on things. I saw him talking with John Finch one day and I thought to myself how much knowledge both of them had about model boating and how many people they have helped sharing that knowledge (me included). For as long as they have been playing with boats they are still taking the stuff home to hang on the wall. Just a small part of why they BOTH are in IMPBA's Hall of Fame.

And I got to know Ray Sametz a little better this trip. Union craftsman ALWAYS have some funny stories to tell! Enjoyed every minute of it. However, you won't get me to agree to stop at a Burger King on the road next trip..............

Yes Dick it was good to see all of ya. And yes I saw all of you taking a nap under the tent when I heard someone say the old boaters tent. All the boaters under your tents like yourself, John, Steve, Marty, Don and others and under ours Doc and myself. Just how many years do you think that we had between us? Doc and myself have about 60 years total. I bet that there was about 200 years between all of us. That for sure is a lot of history.
