SO is it safe to buy a controller that has been on the shelf for a while as long as the updates are downloaded to it?

The Castle's are a software driven esc and improvements there can make a significant difference to the operation of them

And there is more water cooling and high current controllers which will blow people away!

So are you saying to save for a different ESC? What other ESC's are out there in the 100amp range for that price?

No, he is saying that Castle will be introducing new marine ESCs in the near future.
Current B125s should have the new software installed off the Castle website. It was loaded there on the 22nd. Just download the new Link software to your computer, then use the link to update the controller software. The new software includes the current car startup program, which eliminates an occasional massive amperage spike whch is what fired many/most of the burnt 125s in the past.

Hmmmm I think I may wait now. Although when the Mamba car controller was first told it would be out soon, soon ended up being almost a year later.

Do not assume that because you just received a 125 repair returned to you that it has the correct software. I just got one back late last week and its the old software. Update all of them, no matter what.

Steve is right, by "current" I meant controllers made after the 22nd. It will not hurt to update every Barracuda you have just to be safe. Make certain that it has version 2.19

Having done this several times, and currently (3 months) waiting on repaired controls, I would hesitate a bit longer on buying new ones.
