I'm having a heck of a time getting this new engine to go. I,m getting fuel to the plug and fire to the plug at its best it will pop pop but won't run. I'm using a cmb remote needle valve @ 3 1/2 to 4 out. Center of tank is in line w/ carb. Carb drips fuel out not good on the new paint. I did take apart the front intake part to clean out and am about 85% shure I got the rotor valve in right, is there any way to know w/o taking back apart? Would it still draw fuel if in backwards? thanks for any help

At a guess the engine is flooding, try about 2.5 to 3 turn on the needle. You may need to pinch off the fuel line, flush out the motor with the plug removed, then relaese the line just before starting. What plug and fuel are you using? Have you run other nitro boat motors before?

If you take off the carb and the glow plug, look in at the drum. Turn the engine over in the normal running direction, the drum valve should open into the case as the piston goes up and close off when it goes down (roughly speaking!)

I'm using mccoy #9 plugs and 20% red max w/ 2% castor & 20% syn just sport running. This is my 3rd nitro boat but 1st in-brd. I forgot to mention its a cmb CAM gold head w/ 2 glow plugs and I had drivers on both. I did pinch on the lines and it poped a little more. When I take out the plugs they look wet and brownish tinted. thanks , Mike

Mc9's were too cold for my CAM 45 Gold head running on 25%, I would recommend Mc8's or Mc59's. You should only need a glow lighter on one of the plugs to get it going. Most people I know got rd of the twin plug head.

If your running a cmb67 cam ,that motor loves 50% nitro, turn the needle valve out 2 1/2 to 3 turns it should start, if not make sure its turning the right way,or get a stronger starter. Another thing is to make sure the carb is at least half way open or adjust it up to that point with the throttle trim. Hope this helps let us know!!

Mike - Are you sure you have a CAM 67 or an EVO 67? The CMB CAM 67 has a drum valve intake that only goes in one way, unless the drum housing is upside down. Then it would be out of time and would not run. If it has a rotor valve(zimmerman disc), it is an EVO 67 CMB. Then the disc can be reversed, however it should run either way. Both engines were available with gold head and dual plugs.

Thanks a bunch for all the help so far. I've came down w/ a nasty cold so I'm not upto messing w/ boat yet. I do have some OS 8 glow plugs are these close to the Mccoy 8's? thanks again, Mike

Hmmm... twin plug head on a 67...

methinks no compression in there for 20%

methinks barely enough compression for 50%

methinks time for a compressed single plug head may be your best option for 20%

EMS Racing methinks rarely

Try a OS 3 Plug, I have a twin plug head and have good luck with them on 20%. well better luck with 15 nitro.

there a hotter plug for the lower nitro. Tint them before starting the engine. I normaly use ignitor on one plug to start it. When it was new it took one on each. and a plug loosened.

Methinks Craig might be onto something here - measure the bowl volume of the head - my 67's have a .59cc or .60cc volume and ran on 25% OK (much better on 50% though!)

Also give Ian's suggestion a try - if it is too much fuel causing your problem that should help

"You may need to pinch off the fuel line, flush out the motor with the plug removed, then relaese the line just before starting."

I think I am on to something too....

Have you seen the size of the MAC 67 heads??? The same size I used to run on my old CMB 45 GP.... Either throw 50-60 at it or go to single glow and compress it.

Oh and try leaving the plug out and tip the boat nose up (pinching the fuel line) to empty the pipe of any fluid, throw the starter on the engine and wait till you see a reasonably fine mist of fuel coming out of the head. Take the starter off, pinch the fuel line, put the plug back in, attach the glow driver, unpinch the fuel line and hit it with the starter at about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle... Seem to remember something like that in the instructions, righ after "High Technologing Engines"

Come on guys.......this poor boy can't even get the motor started and you are talking about nitro%, head volumes, and "tinting glow plugs"! We want to grow the sport, not send newbys to the crazy house! Let's find an accomplished boater that lives close by and get him to the pond to help this guy.

Good call Eric,

It is easy to get caught up in conversation and get side tracked ;)

Mike B - where are you located?

Hey I thought giving him the process on how to start it was trying to help....

And if you have bought a CMB with a twin plug head you have to be semi serios???

EMS Racing Maybe we do ASS U ME???
