Looking good ! I added a third bolt in the center of the other two when i built my SG 90 , little less stress on those nylon bolts , i've seen them break before . Should be a friggin MISSLE with that powerhouse in there !! :)

Thanks for the tip that sounds like a great idea.

Also I cant wait to see you all race the twins up in Brandon in a couple of weeks.

Well here is the latest on what I have done.I have attached the rear sponsons as well as mounting the brass drive shaft thru the strut and clothed down the stuffing tube.

The rear sponsons look like a NEW ITERATION!!!!!!!! They seem much wider and are creating a small tunnel, air trap and a high velocity of air flow back towards the prop. Maybe Andy would comment on this. In the past there has just been a ramp up the middle, then small rear sponsons, then both the ramp and small sponsons and now what appears much wider rear sponsons. BTW I think I have built all of the versions but the this version. Dr.T

From What Andy tells me the new rear sponson design is supposed to keep the back from sucking down.

Well I took a long break. And last night I finshed laying cloth in the engine compartment. As well as glueing the the boom tube in the two sponsons. And glueing the turn fin inserts in the right sponson.

Its looking good.

Hey Jeremy. It looks like the rear sponsons are laying on there sides,I had them sitting up right as you can see by my lines, Did Andy tell you that's the way they are to be put on, I have seen other boats and they looked like the way i was putting them on,just wondering. Looks Good. Rich.

Hey Rich,

The X-2 uses rears that are much shallower than what the SG, SGX used. Many of the first X-2's were shipped without clear indication of this and some were installed incorrectly.

Jeremy asked me about this. So, yes his are on correctly now.

Anyone ever tried a conventional type rear sponson on these boats ? . Just seems that if you are going to have them anyway a little wider track would add some footprint for cornering in nasty water . Maybe the lift would be lost in the rear end some I guess ..

Yes, kinda makes me sick when I see guys do that.

Eagle SG, SGX 14 times world champion.....with under the tub rear sponsons.

andy

i am curious on your thoughts as to why you went with sponsons under the tub vs on the outside.. or ski only for that matter.

thanks

chris

Chris,

I did it for aerodynamics.

Here are pics of the first CMDi production boat. The .21 Mongoose. Winner of the 1984 & 1985 Orlando Winternats.

I'll post details about this boat next.

1984 Mongoose .21

Engine was offset to far right.

Engine with 180* header and pipe was fully enclosed by cowl.

S-bend .150 flexshaft.

Boxed ski with solid mount barrel for shaft bearings.

Center of Gravity tank location to left of engine/shaft

Flat bottom tub.

7075-T6 turnfin. Same shape used on current Eagle SGX.

Rudder mounted to side plate at transom.

Weight 5 pounds.

I won the 1984 Orlando Winternats with this hull.

As a novice driver my wife Donna won the 1985 Orlando Winternats and went on to finish 2nd in the District 3 High points standings.

This was back in the days when a normal district race would turn out 25 boats in the class.

Well I have mounted the rudder bracket and installed the rudder servo.

This weekend I am going to start sanding and sealing the sponsons and outside of the tub. I am waitng on some cool parts to mount the throttle and remote valve. This thing is going to be a blast to throw in the water.
