DO NOT use the foam brush. Many years ago I used the foam brush to apply Hobbypoxy and the foam swelled and partially dissolved in the paint.Which type of brush should I use for brushing Klass Kote epoxy paint? I use disposable foam brushes with the West System epoxy. Will those work fine for Klass Kote?
Thanks.
Chris, are you foam brushing the primer and the color? I dont like to setup to spray if not needed.i guess i differ as i use a foam brush with klass cote with no issues.. only reason i do is because with normal brushes i always ran into issues with getting brush fibers in the paint or clear
chris
OK I only have brushed epoxy color to touch up an area that was scratched or damaged.hey phil
i only use it on clear.. for the seal coats.. never tried it with primer and color

i tried using those foam brushes from Home Depot to brush on Klass-kote and it didnt work out. klass-kote recondmends using natural hair brushes or a roller if you dont have spray equipment. Also you may consider trying a Preval disposable sprayer, those can be had at a auto parts store or Ace hardware for around 6 bux. I would highly suggest using their reducer also.I am going to try brushing on color. I have spray equipment, but am too lazy... Plus this boat will be raced and will get scratched sooner or later.... I'll try the foam brush first, but I will test to make sure the foam doesn't dissolve when in contact with the epoxy. They hold up great with the West System epoxy.
Thanks for the input and keep it coming. I probably won't paint for a couple days. BTW, this is for my Speedmaster mono.
I sealed my new Blackbird hydro with one coat of west systems, sanded and appliied two coats of classcoat clear. I just brushed on the classcoat using a natural bristle artist brush. I found the classcoat very easy to sand between coats Richard Di tried using those foam brushes from Home Depot to brush on Klass-kote and it didnt work out. klass-kote recondmends using natural hair brushes or a roller if you dont have spray equipment. Good idea, thanks!I was shown the paintbrush at an early age.
One trick is with a new brush is to set the bristles by loading the metal ferrule up wet with standard varnish and brush it out on a clean board, clean it well with turps and let it dry bristles up for at least a week or more. The best paintbrush you will ever find for using with color is a well used varnish brush.
If you take the time to set the bristles, your new brush will be softer for better flow and paint hold, and the likelyhood for it to shed is way less if not eliminated.
I wouldn't recommend trusting a new brush not to shed the first time using it, no matter the price or quality.
